I started knitting! I am so excited, I've been sort of interested for awhile but haven't had the time to really figure out how. Our local town community center has a knitting class monday nights for 6 weeks. I was chatting with my friend Cate who does amazing stuff that totally inspires me, and I rememberd and looked up in their catalog to see when the class started, and it was THAT night. I called and they had spaces left and then I had 2 hrs to go get yarn and needles. That left me with the unfortunate option of Walmart... I'm in rural eastern CT and you don't notice how boonie like it is until you need something specific. I ended up with some yucky acrylic yarn, acutally I suppose as far as acrylic goes it's not too bad, however I am a natural fiber girl all the way.

Class was good, learned how to cast on and do the basic knit stitch. I have already knit about 14" of a 25 stitch wide scarf. She had us buy size 11 needles and the yarn I got is really bulky so it's going fast.

Yesterday I spent most of the day looking for some nice yarn, what a project. Everyone was closed, only open by appt, out of biz permanently, etc. I ended up spending $15 on gas, guess I should have just mail ordered some! I did find a great store with beautiful yarns about 40 min away. Boy, is that hand dyed stuff gorgeous. I got one ball of cashmere/merino, 2 merino/angora and a ball of gorgeous multip colored green fluffy merino wool. I'm going to attempt to figure out how to do a pattern I think, can't wait until next monday and I don't want to do a basic all knit stitch scarf out of these nice yarns.

Garden stuff- eh, it's going okay. We had a REALLY dry summer, once again my japanese anemone didn't bloom and I'm really sad. I do have some amazing dahlias blooming now though to keep me happy so I guess I'll survive. We still have tomatoes, eggplants and peppers producing but they will be gone soon I'm sure. Then it will be time to set up the ice rink! If we can afford wood that is, I hear building supplies have tripled due to hurricane rebuilding. Bad time for us to start doing house renovation that we are hoping to do this fall!

Hubby's last day of work is friday, he'll be working for himeself from now on. It's potentially a good thing but if he doesn't get enough work...it's a very bad thing.

Here it is, my infrequent blog post. The winds are changing around here. I'm getting ready to try to sell Sugar Peas. It's become too much for me and it's time to hand it off to someone with more business savvy. Of course now that I have decided to sell it I am VERY anxious to do so. I have a problem with anything that takes more than 2 seconds.

We are hoping it will allow hubby to leave his dead end job as an art director at a small ad agency where he is mistreated and underpaid and start his own design firm here. My mind tends to get too worked up at stuff like this, I think about how to rearrange our office and workshop, what I should do for work, how to get him clients, etc etc. It keeps me up at night, I need to learn to turn off my brain at night. I've also had some cold or allergies or something causing congestion and horrible sinus headaches all week. I have been a vegetable by late afternoon for days. I feel like it might be over, last night wasn't too bad and I feel must less ear pressure today. I felt like poking something into my ear drum to relase the pressure last night!

I'm getting really excited about a possible career in scrapbook product design. My sis in law is starting a company and may want me to design some product lines. This could be SO fun, she made me start scrapbooking and I am so hooked. Another thing I'll get to do once I sell. Oh and make the girls a whole bunch of fall clothes, I have so many gorgeous fabrics collected to start with! I hope I can actually get them done this time and not get too busy as I have in the past.

It's Sew and Show time! I got roped into setting up a table at my 5yr old's Montessori School Spring Fair. I was thinking I won't really sell much, though there do seem to be a fair amount of cloth diaperer's around here (we are near a large University so I think that makes a difference) but not a lot of people at her school have a baby too. I decided I needed to flex my creative muscles and make bags that I have been thinking about for years. Here are pics, one is done except for the strap and the other is just the front flap. I am doing them out of upholstery fabrics and wool flannel.

Yesterday was Ruby's 3rd Birthday! We did a cake at my mother in laws after Easter Dinner, 2 of her cousins were there and then last night we had another little party for her with pizza and cake and a few friends, family members and her favorite Sugar Peas employees who are college age gals who have become part of our family. (think of me as the big sis not the mom though please they are only 9-11 years younger)

Ruby saw Robots about 2 wks ago with my mom and has been obsessed ever since. She is really into pretending to be someone or something else. She is a kitty a LOT, and a crazy rearing up neighing horse as well. She has been Robin the Robot for the last 2 wks, I think that's supposed to be the character Rodney. So my mom got her a robot cake and themed stuff. She got a Rodney doll that's about a foot tall and soft except for his had that has been a big hit.

Ruby is very concerned about people calling her other things than her name, and she let's you know it when you do something she doesn't like. She let some 5yr old have it at Simone's school last week. We walked by and the girl said, "look at that cute little girl" Ruby stops, turns around and YELLS " NO, I NOT LITTLE GIRL, I RUBY!!!" The poor big girl didnt' know what hit her.
