we rode the train at zilker park on memorial day. cody is practicing his waving and claire is watching cody. it was hot, but fun. aunt emily was with us over the weekend (she took the picture) and it was so fun to have her here.

cody has said some really fun things lately:

dada works at work.

dada get home from work when his car gets home.

elephants eat elephant food.

all correct and true. i'm also amazed by what he remembers from the books we read. he often knows the words and also acts out what we read. we have a book from sarbro and sethappeal called "if you hold my hand" and in the book the bunny jumps across the water on stepping stones. multiple times each day we make stepping stones out of cushions and cody jumps on them. it is really cute.

claire continues to be her easy-going, precious self. she loves rolling over, chewing on her toys, watching cody, and laughing. she is truly a delight. i recently started her on rice cereal. she likes to hold her own spoon and "help" me.

today was a really special mother's day for me. although it is my 3rd official mother's day, it was my first with claire and my first to celebrate with my sister. we went to her home and played badminton while the hubbies watched the 4 kids. it was a wonderful afternoon. artbeat captured this picture and i love his eye for the artistic.

this is a picture i took when we got home. we were outside in the backyard (there was a deer in the greenbelt behind our house AND a lizard on our fence!). the look on claire's face is one that she often makes when she's excited and this is the first time i've been able to capture it.

happy mother's day!

i forgot to say that last night cody said, "happy mother's day!" and gave me a big hug, completely unprompted. it was a sweet, sweet moment.

claire is enjoying her highchair. good thing, too, since cody never really made use of it! although she isn't smiling in this picture, she is a smiling machine. she is truly a delight.

the picture of cody is a little project he did this morning. his shirt says "tree-mendous" and he certainly is tremendous! have i mentioned his love of all things green? as in, all of his things should be green and everything green should be his. this morning when he saw the green bananas i bought last night he said, "no green babananas (that's how he says the word). dada paint them yellow."

ask dada

IMG_3781 IMG_3789

cody is 100% convinced that artbeat can fix anything. here's a sampling of things i hear all day, every day:

"ask dada. do you have more sand, daddy?" (sand, chips, cereal, socks, whatever he needs)

"ask dada. can you fix this?" (the indentation in the carpet from claire's bumbo chair as well as other things that aren't actually broken)

"dada fix my thumb." (his nail turned purple and then fell off. artbeat was nowhere near when the nail fell off, but still gets credit for fixing it)

"ask dada. dada fix purple hippo" (yes, artbeat stayed up late into the night sewing the hole in purple hippo. i offered, but cody was adamant that dada fix it, not mama)

which has me thinking about our Father. maybe it is time that we had more faith in His ability to fix things. and also made me think that some of the things that we ask Him to fix, aren't broken at all.

the pictures are unrelated to my post. i just thought they were so cute. the first is claire and cousin cooper. the second is cody and cousin sarah outside in the new sand/water table. fun, fun times. :)

2 nights ago one of cody's bedtime stories was a sesame street book about heroes. at the end of the book i asked cody, "so, do you have a hero?" he thought for a minute and then said, "uncle steven."
