| Thrifty Thursday~Okay...so I'll come clean. I do in fact make my own laundry soap. I know it may just sound a little, or a lot, out there but this has definitely made my "worth the effort" list of money saving tips. So here goes~
Liquid Laundry Soap 2 bars of Ivory Soap, grated 1 c. Borax 1 c. Washing Soda 5 gal. bucket
Place grated soap in a small saucepan and cover with water. Heat on low
until dissolved. Fill bucket with hot water, and add soap. Stir to
combine. Add washing soda and borax. Mix well. As it cools it will
thicken. It works well to stir it every 1/2 hour or so to keep it mixed up as it cools. May be used immediately. Use 1-2 cups per load. It gels up in the bucket so it isn't going to be runny liquid. (I use 3/4 to 1c. per load.in my front loader)
We have a front load washer. I have been doing this for over 2 years and it is working great. Now on to the money saving end of things.
I had to buy laundry soap monthly~ Tide High Efficiency Laundry Detergent $6.49 (that was Walmarts price 2 yrs. ago when I stopped buying it)
The homeade version lasts me approx. 3 months~ Cost of homeade laundry soap $1.75
You can find the washing soda and borax at Winco with the laundry soaps. Keep in mind that your initial costs will be more but your boxes of washing soda and borax will last you for quite a few laundry soap making days...
Over the course of 3 months we save $17.72! That's $70.88 every year!
Okay there you have it and PolkaDotAlot I'd like to hear what you are using:)

| Thrifty Thursday~Home Brew #2 and no we aren't making beer
Grab a gallon sized container we're making window/multi purpose cleaner!
Recipe for HOME BREW #2 Makes 1 Gal (128 oz)
Recipe: 1 Pint Rubbing Alchohol $.99 1/2 c. ammonia* $? comes in a big bottle and I haven't bought it in ages 1 T. dish washing soap Enough water to fill your gallon container to the top
*I think the original recipe calls for sudsy ammonia and only 1 t. of soap. Since I couldn't find sudsy ammonia I just add in a little extra soap.
For less than $1.50 you can make 1 GALLON of cleaner...most 32oz cleaners in the store are $3-$5.
Windex 26oz $3.36 409 Glass and Surface Cleaner 32oz. $4.66 Method Glass Cleaner 21oz. $4.99
I use it on my mirrors, counters, bathroom surfaces, windows...you name it!
As a stay at home mom
I figure I'm not going to be seeing a pay check every week, well not
even every month... One of the things I like to do, and need to do
really, is help make the monthly paycheck stretch. It happens to be a challenge I enjoy. It may take some extra time and somethings just aren't worth
the time they take me to accomplish them. On the other hand there are
some ways I can help save money and it doesn't take much time/energy
and it actually has simplified my life.
Happy Cleaning!
