| | Downhere Live in WinnipegThe whole thing started off with me going to downhere's myspace account and seeing they were playing in Winnipeg Manitoba soon. I tried way hard to get the time off work but couldn't because of lack of staff. Then my Dad offered to drive me Friday morning to the city (6 hour drive) if I could get Friday night off. I would be back in time to work Sat night. First I traded shifts and paid off one of my fav workers to switch shifts. Then my other fav co worker worked Thurs night so I could leave at 7 am to head to Winnipeg. God was involved big time in making this happen.
Friday @ 8 am my Dad and I headed off to Winnipeg. We got there around 3 pm. I had a bite to eat and a nap. In Winnipeg it was storming like crazy. I didn't lose my faith that I wouldn't see my old friends.
6 pm we left to go to the Red River Ex fair grounds. It was still raining and thundering . Not sure how early I found the stage but I waited txting MarySue. I glanced up and saw Marc, Glenn and Jason sitting on the stage.
I walked up to the stage and Glenn went "There he is. The Prince of Slick" I talked to Glenn, Marc and Jason for around 30 mins. Got pics taken with Jason and Marc. We didn't know if they were going to play or not yet. The sound peeps didn't want them playing with the lightning going on. I was praying like crazy the weather would clear. Also made a wise crack to Marc about making a video to Rain coat with all this going on :P The weather cleared enough and boom, the show started.
Hearing them play again after not being to a downhere show since before SMFS came out was like heaven to my ears. The guys have gotten even better since I last saw them. You also could tell these were men of God when they were singing and talking to the audience.
When Jason was talking before Great are you, I found myself smiling as he was talking about the not so distant train, the flowers that grow near there. It reminded me of where my Christian walk grew and solidified. It also reminded me of my last year @ Briercrest when Marc lived on my floor, when I met Jason and got to know Jeremy a bit more.
All the songs were way awesome. The best part besides seeing my old friends/fav band play was on the encore. They played Beautiful Day (Da U2 song) and my longest fav song, Larger Then Life. I forget the last song they played. But those final three songs I was way into the music, jumping around and taking tons of pics.
After the show I bought a few shirts, a couple of guitar bracelets (One from England, the other from the cruise) and the WEAS cd for keep sake. After that I talked to Glenn, Marc, Jay and Jer during the meet and greet. By then I had almost lost my voice from singing along with the guys and cheering so it was kinda weird. It also was like coming down from a huge high. My energy was fast running out from the lack of sleep and it was c ya l8er time to my fav band.
I slept 4 hours after getting back to the hotel. Then my Dad and I hit the road for the long drive back home. During the drive back home we heard on the radio that a tornado touched down only 20 km from where the Red River Ex grounds.

I got home around 5 pm. Had a cat nap and was at work @ 10:30 pm. I ended up working 11 pm-8:30 am instead of 7 am. Only God giving me the endurance and thinking back on the show kept me from falling a sleep while on the pay roll
All and all I had the time of my life. It was well worth the lack of sleep, 700 plus miles of driving and then working a crazy shift the next day. I would do it again if I had to.
Thanx downhere for your music and letting Jesus use you in awesome ways all the years I've known you. Seeing you guys live was just what I needed to get a boost in my Christian walk and also a much needed distraction from work.
