Joe's Shanghai

New York City, NY

When you go to Joe's Shanghai, you don't expect great service or great decor, what you do expect is mouthwatering, savory Soup Dumplings. The wait is not too terrible (30 minutes or so on a Saturday night), once you're in they'll cram you into tight seats and you'll probably be sitting next to strangers, but it's ok.. the dumplings are closer now!  8 Crab & Pork Meat Soup Dumplings sit on a bed of cabbage and are steamed in bamboo baskets. They're filled with a scalding hot delicious soup broth, so becareful! If you want be safe, do 3 orders... if you're not going to be in town for a while, do 4 orders! Not ordering enough dumplings is my only regret the last time I visited Joe's Shanghai, law of diminishing returns or not!

These are the best dumplings I've ever had.. panfried, steamed, soup.. it doesn't matter what type.. these are dumplings everyone should taste!

it's actually Consomme that they add in it it's gelatin form when forming the dumplings the consomme melts into a broth when steamed. if you ever wondered how they got broth inside a dumpling. This dumpling is known as Juicy Dumplings all around NY.
