Kim's Restaurant

Harvey, LA

Lunch? Kim's Hu Tieu Xao. Basically flat Vietnamese Rice noodles sauteed with beef strips, chinese broccoli, and bean sprouts. I love these simple dishes. All I had to do was add my sriracha and it was set! The noodles have a very "home-like" quality. When mom's not around or I'm just too damn lazy to whip it up myself, I can always cop out and go to Kim's.. lol This dish can also come in "Soup" form. Usually in a chicken broth. Depending on how you're feeling, wet or dry?

Close up...

Kim's Pad Thai

Now you'll probably get mixed reviews from the locals.. some like it, others don't care for it. I'm personally fine with it. I haven't eaten here (in the dine-in sense) for a few years now. I mainly take to-go, so I have no idea how the service is nowaday.. I guess it brings back some childhood memories. There aren't many Vietnamese/Chinese places around and they make pretty decent food, so it's ok. Other popular dishes offered at this family-owned establishment? Their egg noodles, wontons, and an assortment of pastries are just a few things you should try, if you ever visit.. And the Pad Thai Featured above isn't bad, but it isn't the best either. Judge for yourself! =)

goodburger was ok. i had their 'special' mushroom swiss burger with A1 sauce. The A1 was a little too strong... burger was good and fulfilled a craving but I still want Shake Shack!

I love Vietnamese food! They look delish! Btw, do you know what the egg/coconut/bean sprout pancakes are called? I remember they were so yummie.

Wow, thanks for the tips! I'm surprised to hear that black or pink pepper (never seen pink pepper before) goes well w/ vanilla and strawberries, it's odd just like balsamic and strawberries. I will definitely give that a try next time. Yes, I'm going for more of a yogurty cream so I'll take your advice and try crème fraiche or sour cream. Lemon peel sounds great for decoration and it also add to the tartness. Oh no wonder the strawberries didn't blend well w/ the cupcakes, I didn't know to soak it a little with liquor. Wow, these are amazing tips, Chef Allen! I will make them next time and let you know how they taste =). Thanks a bunch!

well a lot of viet/chinese places are pretty damn lazy or just non-chalant about the business... they know ppl want to eat so it's like here's your damn food now pay me... surprisingly i would still go back and eat just bc their food is among the best of other viet/chinese places...

would you care to maybe give us a cooking lesson someday? =D

omg your entries are making me hungry and its only 5:30 in the morning! geez! oh oh, but yesterday, I cooked my FIRST OMELETTE!! AHH! and to tell you the truth? it wasn't bad, I feel i can do better though but I was like "woooaaah" and then my mom wanted a chicken burger or w/e so, after the chicken was done and out of the oven, i made a NICE NON-SLOPPY CHICKEN BURGER!!! AHHH!

i think all of this really good cooking occured because I couldn't get Pixar's "ratatouille" off of my mind.

are you going to go see that film??
