The Four Five Factors of Interpersonal Attraction:
1. Propinquity - proximity and
availibility to others is one of the most important factors to
interpersonal attraction. The mere exposure effect is the tendency for
us to like something or someone the more frequently we are exposed to
the person or thing.
2. Similarity - Unlike
the
cliché, "opposites attract" all studies show that the real truth is
"birds of a feather flock together." It's not so much opposite
traits which are attractive rather
dissimilar-but-complementary traits in fundamentally similar
people. Besides
sharing responsibility on partnered goals, having someone similar to us
provides validation for our views or our personal characteristics
(Goethals, 1986).
3. Mood - If we're depressed,
it'd be difficult to "connect" with another. But this factor goes
further. If somehow being around a particular person creates
positive feelings, we are more likely to be attracted to the
individual. (Flattery is a great weapon if used appropriately.)
Even positive or negative feelings associated indirectly with the
person has an impact.
4. Physical Attractiveness - In
general, physical attractiveness is universal across cultures. In
fact, using eye-tracking technology, infants younger than one-year-old
already show a preference looking at attractive rather than
unattractive strangers (Singh, 1993). They also show that
the more faces from different cultures are "morphed together" the more
attractive the resulting composite is (Langlois and Roggman, 1990). There are tons of studies on how
physical attractiveness affects people in other ways (essays turned in
by attractive people are invariably seen as better, even though they're
the same essays, and attractive people in general tend to have better
personalities because the positive treatment allows for more less
obstructed ego devlopment.)
5. Reciprocity - I forgot (just took a gander at my notes) - the fifth factor for physical attractiveness is the reciprocity of disclosure phenomenon,
which states that the sharing of secrets and feelings facilitates
emotional closeness and attraction. Also knowing that someone is
attracted to you tends to promote feelings also (and vice versa).

| Ah, i havent updated this one, but im going to because i want to throw
you all off! hah! so...wait a minute...i need to brush my teeth! maybe
floss even! (HAHA jared!) okay, so its after school....which was pretty
enthusiastic today...what with the drama production getting ready to be
preformed and all this friday, and YA'LL BETTER BE THERE!!.
ok, on to normality...i miss bel air. i miss abingdon, and i miss my room. my little room.
