A place to remember..

One of my favorite things about being in London is being able to find authentic European food pretty much anywhere. Just like being in Singapore, all sort of authentic asian food found everywhere. And ine of my favorite cooks is Antonio Carluccio. If you have watched his cooking programmes, such as Antonio Carluccio's Italian feasts', you would probably remember him for his very traditional and yet simple italian cooking. Last evening, I was recommended to this place 'Carluccio's' and when I heard that it was actually by Antonio Caluccio, I couldn't be more estatic. My first impression I gave when I walked into the restaurant was 'Wow, this place looks really posh!' and was expecting for a very expensive bill at the end of the meal. However, not only was it suprisingly affordable for an italian restaurant in Covent Garden, it was also much more lesser than what you would pay for at a celebrity's chef restaurant. His menu is very authentic italian and I went straight away for the pasta dishes. I had the penne giardiniera, the restaurant's own penne with courgette, chilli, and deep fried spinach balls with parmesan and garlic. While, my dear friend had his usual Beef Lasagne. We were blown away by the pasta that was cooked Al dente (slighty firm texture) just like how I like it and also the sauce which was so delicious. To complement our dishes, we were recommended a house italian white wine. We were both stuffed after our main course and couldn't have anything, otherwise we would have ordered the home made tiramisu that surely their speciality. Next to the restaurant was a shop selling authentic italian groceries wholesale by Anotonio himself. After the dinner, I had to go down to his shop to check out. Everything looks very tempting to buy and I couldn't help not walking out of the shop with regrets and got myself some Almond biscottis. So I am a pretty happy girl now after a satisfied meal.

Yesterday mark my two years stay in London. We celebrated it by first having drinks at a bar next to the restaurant we booked. The restaurant was conveniently 10 mins walk from my flat and next to smithfield market. To start of the evening was a 1-for-1 for classic Mojito at The Bar & the Grill. One of the best mojitos I had and freshest mint leaves are used in the drink. After that, we hopped to the restaurant just right next door, Saki food. A modern and stylish edge to a japanese restaurant. We were greeted with warm service and ushered to our tables. First we open a bottle of house red wine to compliment our dishes. And to start of our meal, we had a soft shell crab tempura and assorted sashimi. The soft shell crab tempura came with a spicy mayo that work so well together. My sashimi had the freshest salmon and the melt-in-the-mouth tuna belly. Also, the scallop and squid were both fresh and speechless. Our second course was chicken terriyaki and rib eye terriyaki done medium rare. Chicken terriyaki was not as great as the rib eye that was done to perfection. Lastly, our desserts were a green tea tiramisu and a black sesame tofu panna cotta. Both desserts were good!!

As the head chef is from Japan, quality is definitely expected in this restaurant. A hard find japanese restaurant that lives up to its standards!

At the end of the evening, I was quite tipsy from all those alcohol but sober enough to walk home. What a wonderful evening!

Its terrible to live with guys. They don't do the dishes, they are extremely inconsiderate for other people's feeling by not lowering their noise level after 11pm (when normal people go to sleep). I had enough! The worse thing is the boiler is down and there is no hot water. Cold shower makes me a grumpy person. I asked the reception 3 times to send someone to fix the boiler. They sent someone, but he didn't fix anything. Another day of cold shower. Could my day be any more worse?!
