| TGATA - wrap upnot that many of you were reading, but sorry for not updating; it was killer to try to get internet in the midwest/west
i promise i'll flesh these out later, but seeing as how i'm in cali now
and i'm only here for about 28 hours, i don't want to blog all day
notes of interest:
chicago deep dish pizza at giordano's
-the pizza was really really good. but still, i grew up on new york style. new haven pizza is still the best.
snowstorm in colorado
-adam woke me up via text message to see this. then sent me another text message meant for amy. i was trying to sleep
ghost town new mexico
-new mexico is unreal. looks exactly like an old western set
alberquerque, new mexico brief stop
-sadly, the burrito cart wasn't there
flagstaff, arizona brief stop
-arizona is cold at night
met some cool guys
-john, the freight train operator who was on vacation. we played a lot of hearts with him.. really hysterical nice guy
-joe, the elderly gentleman who loves riding on the train. had
dinner w/ him and talked about various things from the mortgage melt
down to.. i dunno we talked about other stuff
-karlov(sp?), the foreign exchange work/exchange dude from
slovakia. had dinner w/ him but didn't talk too much.. i was tired and
he was.. a foreigner.
hearts:
-big dumb kim won 0 games.
-unsuccessfully shot the moon twice, but only got 25 points because a heart was in the kitty
(playing 3-way hearts, we put one card face down. whoever wins
the first trick takes the card as a trick, and only they get to see
what it is)
-dave also got the queen of spades in the kitty. hilarious
-finally won some games, but i still refuse to count cards. which makes
it fun and interesting, as people don't know what idiotic play i'll
make to foil their plans.
i forget other things that happened for now.

| TGATA Hour 19i just woke up; we're in indiana somewhere. i was actually really
lucky that i woke up briefly to see a really pretty sunset. we must've
been on some lake of some sort but i have no idea where i was. probably
can figure it out later by looking at the map and doing the math.
the train is running about 4 hours late in total. i hope we have enough
time to catch the next train in chicago as well as get some deep dish
pizza. any suggestions as to good eats in chicago near the amtrak train
station?
so adam came on at syracuse and we just went to the dining car and
played hearts for a few hours. note to everyone: do not play hearts
with adam and dave. seeing as how they both lack one, they play
maliciously. the last time i played hearts was literally over ten years
ago, and so i was just pushed around like one of those little popping
rolling kid toy where the little balls in the dome pop and you push it
around like a lawn mower.
for those of you who don't know them, adam and dave love to play
useless trivia games and quiz each other. questions that came up
yesterday: what state has the most native americans? 2nd most? which
native american tribe is the largest in the US (somehow they both know
this off the top of their head.. oklahoma, california, and navajo).
what's rare is that adam them asked 'what's the 48th state to have joined
the union?' i guessed new mexico, big dumb kim guessed something
to fit his monniker (utah), and adam with a knowing smile said 'no,
it's oklahoma'. actually, he told me that new mexico was a really
good guess before that. but then dave started arguing with adam about
the dates and they both raced on their nerdy little phones (iphone and
blackberry) to see who was right. surprisingly, adam was wrong. 47 -
new mexico, 48 - arizona (49 - alaska, 50 - hawaii). pretty
embarrassing for adam. one of yale's finest history majors. which just
goes to show you; pretend you know what you are talking about and
people will believe you
looking out the window.. it looks like it's 1984. not like the book,
but more like pictures of when i was born and a kid. 'the town that
time forgot'. seriously it juts looks very rural and old outside,
with questionable selection in house colors and such.
ok obviously i really dont' have much to say and i just woke up.
looking at dave next to me, somehow his hair is wet. to the best of my
knowledge there is no shower on this train so now i am a little
curious. getting on the sleeper car in chicago should be fun, as we
will probably play games all day, all night, and then all day again,
and then all night again. i'll just be glad that i can sleeping
completely horizontally. my pillow is still waiting to make an
appearance
will let you know if anything funny happens, but given the amount of arable land outside i'm not sure what the prospects will be

| TGATA - Hour 6it has been two hours since dave has joined me on the train; patience
is wearing thin. he is just as ugly as i remember. also, a
'highly coincidental' event occurred where now the train car stinks of
some strange odor. dave tried to preempt me and play it off by saying
'you smell that?' but i just responded by looking at him with cold eyes
right now he is sleeping with his big dumb head on the side of my chair.
adam should be joining us in 30 min to an hour and he is bringing us
subway sandwiches. well, at least he had asked us if we wanted them and
we gave him our orders. but it wouldn't surprise me if he just used
them for his own dinner menu ideas and get us anything.
unfortunately, it wasn't actually possible to save adam a seat. so i
guess he'll have to find a seat then delivery our sandwiches, then go
back to his seat all alone with strangers somewhere on the train. i
should probably tip him a dollar or two
ok this will be the last mean entry for awhile.. i think emily will get
mad at me. i kinda sold out. being mean is funny. easy laughs.
it is a little strange how all three of us have wireless email access;
me on my laptop, dave's blackberry and adam's iphone. pretty convenient.
i also realized how stupid it is to title my entries by date and time,
seeing as how xanga does that for me already. boo boo dummyhead
oh! in other news both steve sauk and christine chung is free for
dinner on monday! hooray! the korean bbq buffet tradition continues! the korean marinade will flow
