Hey guys!

Well, so much for staying current huh?  I just wanted to let you all know about my band Seeker.  They are pure praise and worship and they are going to be playing at a battle of the bands in our area called Rock the River.  I just ask for your prayers that we will be able to help usher in a feeling of worship!  Thanks.  I hope you all are doing well.

Superman

Have you ever had the desire to be a superhero? Do you ever get that overwhelming feeling to do great things and fly around saving everyone that calls out for help? Wouldn't it be great to take out the bad guys, rescue people from burning buildings, help little old ladies across the street (with super speed, of course)? Well, I think it would be cool.

Have you ever had the desire to be a villain?  Do you ever get that overwhelming feeling to do not so great things, ignoring and laughing at those who call out for help?  Wouldn't it be great to be the bad guy, start fires for the fun of it, help little old ladies across the street (while digging through her purse, of course)? Well, I think that would most defiantly not be cool.

Honestly I have had both of these desires.  In life, we have one of two paths to choose. While these paths are not exactly the ones of Heroes vs. Villains they still spawn from the roots of Light vs. darkness. The first of these paths is that of me/world, and is the easier of the two. Again, this path doesn't necessarily make us villains in the sense of hurting people or causing destruction to others, but in the long run can lead to us hurting ourselves and eventually even lead to our own destruction. Once we start living only for ourselves and loving the things of the world over others and the Lord, we cut ourselves off from God. Typically we start off with things that seem like minute distractions.  But, these distractions are the very things that can destroy us spiritually. Some of these distractions can include alcohol, drugs, peer pressure, pornography, etc. Notice how all of these distractions can lead to destructive lifestyle even when we have given our lives to Christ? We can not afford to have distractions in our lives. We need to stand firm in God and keep Christ as our strong foundation. Keep this in mind; When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? Psalm 11:13.

The Second path, which is that of others/God is the harder one. Sometimes I’ll close my eyes and imagine I have super powers.  There’s a good feeling that wells up from inside when you think of being able to help people and make a difference, all without recognition or payment of any kind. Then, like the rest of you, I open my eyes and realize I have no power. But, you know, I don’t really think that is true.  While we may not be supermen we still have a special gift. This gift was given freely by God and is just as easy to share with others.  The gift is love. Sure we can’t fly or stop time or anything, but we can love everyone. That is the coolest power than I could ever think of. So remember, there has only been one Superman and his name was Jesus. But he did leave us with certain gifts through the Holy Spirit, the highest of all being love. So close your eyes and let that feeling rise again.  That feeling is simply love. Now open your eyes. You still have that gift! Now, don your spiritual tights and love the world!  Remember this; The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18

Are you a sleepwalker?

Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 1 Corinthians 15:18

I have never personally experienced sleepwalking before, but I recently read a story online that grabbed my attention. It involves a woman who has just started sleepwalking.  Now, please don’t think that I am picking on sleepwalkers or disregarding the problem as not being serious.  That said, this story was very interesting and somewhat humorous.  The woman told of how she sleepwalks typically once a week.  During this time she will actually get up, go to another room, and turn on her computer to play video games. Her eyes will be wide open and she can even have extensive conversations with her husband, in which he has to ask her if she is asleep or awake. I thought it was amusing that she mentioned she plays games better when she’s asleep.

There are many different tales of sleepwalking you can read/hear about or maybe have even experienced. Some can be comical while others can be frightening, such as those that tell of people that have hurt themselves by falling down stairs or even hurt themselves or others with various household objects.  If you have any down time, sleepwalking is a pretty interesting topic to research.  In fact I found out that 18% of Americans sleepwalk. And I’m sure by this time you are thinking “ok, Bryan. What’s your point?” Ok, ok, keep your PJs on.

Many of us have become sleepwalkers in our daily lives, especially in living for God. Too often we will give our lives over to Jesus and then simply fall asleep.  At first, we will stay awake and exert energy to study our bibles, witness, go to church, etc. But soon we fall asleep in that new life.  Sure we will still study our bibles (while day dreaming), witness (or at least think how we would), and go to church (when we feel like getting out of bed), but we are still asleep when we do it. Does God still love us when we do this?  Yes, of course. But it limits the capacity in which we understand how to give and even receive such love.  Frankly we are lost.  We have blinders on.  We have “ran the race,” so to speak, so many times that we could do it from memory.  The problem is that we shouldn’t do it from memory; we need to start doing it by heart. Its time to wake up! Open your eyes, and your hearts, once again and remember what it was like to be fully awake and energized for our Savior.
