Don Markstein's Toonopedia - weblink, 4 stars http://www.toonopedia.com/index.htm
I have an on-again, off-again love affair with comics and cartoons that is currently in the "on" stage, and this site is something that I came across when trying to settle an online argument. Don Markstein provides an online encyclopedia of "toon-related" stuff, from cartoons to comics (books or strips) running the gamut from The Yellow Boy and Krazy Kat to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Each entry includes a history of the character/strip/whatever, as well as publishing information. He also calls it right down the middle if something is a knockoff of an existing character or story.
The only thing that keeps this site from hitting 5 stars is that he pretty much stops at the 90s or so as far as *new* stuff, though he mentions things that occurred in the 90s/00s (such as the reboot of the Fantastic Four in 1996.
If you have even a passing interest in comics, I recommend this site without hesitation. Even if you don't, check it out. |
