The Reminder

Today was my first time to.....

today, i was fortunate enough to experience several new things:

1) i went to the memphis zoo- it was fun, the animals looked depressed though.... i saw a porcupine literally scratching for about 15 minutes on the glass trying to escape. but i liked seeing so many animals in one place

2) a guy came up to me and wanted to take a picture of me because my "hair looks good". i had a hard time trying to smile for the picture. not to mention i hadn't bathed in a couple days so, it really didn't look good.

3) an older man peed on my foot. that's right, i was standing in front of a urinal beside some man who was having trouble peeing, and he got some on my foot. i tried my best not to freak out. but i immediately zipped up and cleaned my foot.

4) i drove around memphis and didn't get lost. this was a full success. Memphis has been a favorite attraction for me and julia.

hey. I feel lame that i always want to post on xanga but i never can think of anything to write about... so i'm just going to write.
It's easter this weekend. this means that it's packing up and going home for two days. i hate packing and i don't really like staying with my parents. but i do think jackson is more eventful... i like visiting with my friends at home. i miss them so.
i just started working at the sanderson center. for those who don't know, the sanderson center is basically a healthplex for mississippi state. it's the best job that i've ever had. all i do is walk around and count people, and make sure everybody is being safe.... of course there is the occasional washing towels, but that is done only when i feel like it which is nice. plus everybody that works there is really nice.
I'm still majoring in mechanical engineering... and i don't like it much. but i do enjoy the free time and perhaps the potential for cash in the future, which i can put forward to endeavors that i actually do enjoy... so it's give and take....

things that i want to get better at:

1) being interviewed(i can't take myself serious enough to have any opinions when asked, which i find a huge problem... if you don't believe me, try to ask me a serious question... i'll sweat and say "umm")

2) saving money

3) pursuing things that i'm good at

well i have to drive back now...

i've been listening to the new modest mouse cd and i don't really like it much.

bald-faced but not a liar

so, christmas break.
eh, what else ya got?
i made the mistake of asking my dad to find work for me over christmas break... here's what he came up with:
1) i work for my mom:
odd jobs around the house... i'm getting paid by the hour but i don't know how much that is.
2) work for ups:
HERE is the tricky one.... so monday night i get a call at 8 oclock from Carla at UPS... can i be there the next day at 10 to get oriented and a job.. yes.  oh! and by the way..... shave your beard!
......................................... yikes.
so initially my reaction is.. "no, i will not shave my beard for 3 days of work"... my parents reaction "yes you will shave your beard for 3 days of work"... and then they proved to me that they were still in complete control of my life... my dad gave me an enormous guilt trip about not appreciating what they do for me...
after hours of talking down to me, i give in.... "ok"
i shave it, look ridiculous... go to orientation... get a job.... Carla says, "you'll get a call at about 7:30 tomorrow morning with instructions on where to meet your driver"... I recieve no call... it's friday, no call this morning.. no work...  no beard..

Benefits and Costs:

Benefits...............................................................$24  for paid orientation
-Costs................................................................- $36 for pants, shoes, gas that i needed for the job
(-)$12  yes.  getting this job COST me money and a beard

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

whatever

call me an idiot.  i decided to very flippantly choose a new career path.  one that my parents like, and one that i like.  raise your hand if you like math! raise your hand if you like solving complicated problems! raise your hand if you are bad at making big decisions!   ok, my arm is getting tired.  wait one more..  raise your hand if you're changing your major to mechanical engineering!  now i'm done.  it's true my friends.  i've chosen to finally dump my long time rival, architecture.
you can do one of a few things:
1)(most likely the most popular one)-- get pissed at me, and think i'm making a very poor decision
2) wish me luck and be happy for me
3) go buy me a snowcone(jessi you're exempt from this one)

weight off my back, friends.  weight off my back.

hang out time will be maximized this next semester

scholarships and cars

so yesterday... bad things happened.
two in particular:

1) i lost my scholarships by 5 tenths of a point...

2) me and julia got in a wreck.(we're ok)-- she was really great at making me feel better about the whole thing... besides that- she has TRIPLE A! which i'm a pretty big fan of now... whoever she is riding with gets free towing and roadside assistance! what a service!!!

but you know... even though this day cost several thousand dollars, things coulda been worse... a) i've still got tons of great friends. b) my parents still love me... c) for some odd reason, perhaps God wanted it to happen? either way, i think we have to decide what to get bent out of shape about.. the world is pretty big... bigger than scholarships and cars
