It Was a LONG Way to Go for a Band-Aid We were up at 5:00 a.m. this morning. All of us! The animals were fed. The balance of our stuff was loaded into the van. One last check was made of the house, and we were off. The front gate closed behind us at 6:03 a.m. We were on our way. This vacation has been planned since last fall. My husband saved back quite a chunk out of the inheritance his Grandma Golda left for him for this trip and one other (in August). The kids weren't told about this one until January. We've all been counting the days in the last few weeks.
We drove and we drove and we drove. We saw plenty of what gives our state, The Golden State, its name - those "golden" hills!
We drove and we drove and we drove some more. Eventually, our valley came to an end, and we had to make our way up and over these hills. The road goes right up through that area between the hills there..........and Yep! That's California smog in the photo, too!
The early start and eating breakfast in the car really paid off. We checked into our motel and were ready to find a spot to eat lunch by 12:30. The weather was cool and a bit drizzly. We came through just a bit of rain, too, but the rest of the day was dry. Very cool, but dry.
You know you've chosen a fun destination when even leaving the parking garage is fun!!!
Okay, how many of you had guessed right? (Bren and Elk Grove Susan and my friends in real life all knew where we were going, so their guesses don't count!).
Aaron hamming it up on the rockets!
I'd love to know what these two were discussing before their rocket ride. Will looks worried, and I'm not quite sure what to think about Dani's expression! They had a blast, though! Now, lest you think that I am a big chicken and didn't ride any rides, I'll have you know I rode them all...EXCEPT for the rocket ride. I can go up and down, and even upside down, but I cannot go round and round and round. And it's not old age, either, I've never been able to do the round and round rides. In fact, I shared a seat with William on Space Mountain which is an indoor roller coaster, all in complete darkness, with all sorts of special Disney effects thrown in to make it feel like a space flight!! Yee haw, it was fun!! Great fun! And we rode tons of other stuff, too. And I have LOTS of pictures. However, because I'm the kind of blogger that likes to keep it real, I need to show you my grand adventure of the day. Consider it a behind the scenes tour of Disneyland. You know, one of those opportunities to see things you might never see on a regular family visit? Because, otherwise, I'd have to call this post "Where in the World was Copper's Wife Klutzy Today" and I'm just not gonna title this post that way. You see, as I was getting off of that Space Mountain ride, my foot slipped on something in the floor of the car we were riding in. I caught my balance right away, and I'm still not sure what I slipped on, but I banged my arm on something in the process. Disneyland is one of the safest parks I've ever visited, but somehow I found a sharp edge on that ride. It took a nice little chunk of skin right off my elbow. Oh, it smarted a little, but it didn't really hurt. The problem was, it bled, and I had no band aids in my purse.
We made our way to the first aid station, though, and what a treat!!! It's been a long time since somebody tenderly fixed up one of my owies, and I don't know when such a thing was ever done for me by a Registered Nurse. However, Andy cleaned me up, gave me some antibiotic ointment, and a nice, big bandage applied on my elbow so that it wouldn't come off during the course of the day. And he sent me out the door with supplies to fix it up again in the morning. As embarassing as it was to have to go to First Aid for a band aid, it certainly was a fun experience. I don't have a picture of it, but they gave me a sticker, too!!! It's a very retro Minnie Mouse (of course) sticker, and she's dressed up as a nurse! Very cute! And don't you just know that Dani popped her head into the door of the treatment room to snap a picture!!! I've got to say that the folks in First Aid this evening were friendly, professional and really took away all embarassment I felt at getting an owie in Disneyland! God bless you as you look well to the ways of your household! Proverbs 31:27
