No matter how hard I fight it, or cry about it, or prepare myself for it...its right there, burning all the time, threatening me. And I'm helpless to it. I could give in and let it ruin me, or I can keep fighting it and hope that someday it'll get easier to fight, not burn as hot, run out of kindling...hope for anything better than the raging firestorm it is now.

I could talk about how life is, but how is it really? I could pour out my soul and ramble on and on and end a very long blog by saying that "sometimes life is...." but whose life can be summed up, all the good and all the bad, in a single
"sometimes life is...." cliche? And who doesn't have these days...at least I can take comfort in that.

Being in the highly contagious L.A. area must have done it, or perhaps it was the Orange County people that we hung out with all week...nonetheless, I diseased, disorientated, and downright chummy....with Starbucks coffee fever. What was once a nominal occurance has now turned into an everyday need for survival. I have to wonder if the kids in the drive through recognize my voice. What is sad is that I don't even get any of the froo-froo drinks that you would expect...I get regular coffee, with non-fat milk. Occasionally this week, I have walked on the wild side and enjoyed Sugar-free hazelnut syrup. I CAN'T STOP BUYING $2.00 coffee!!! I wake up in the morning and think "maybe I'll get coffee at QT today or even make some in the office", but then my car steers itself right into the clutches of the Starbucks drive-thru window. And the people there are so....cheery. Really, eerily happy. It must be the caffeine. I think they put secret ingredients in this stuff...

I had a really good time on vacation. I tried new things and really enjoyed myself...here is a list of things that I learned.

The Pacific Ocean is cold.

Catamarans only work with wind.

You do need to put sunblock on ALL exposed areas if you expect to prevent a sunburn on all said areas.

A camera is really just an ornament that you cart around to make you look like a tourist. You don't really take pictures with it, so don't kid yourself.

There are some tequilas that don't taste like turpentine. They are expensive and still taste gross, but they don't taste like turpentine.

In Mexico, all there is is tequila. So if your dad asks you to look for a specific bourbon, just laugh in his face and say "we're going to Mexico, not _________(insert country that is known for bourbon here)".

If you ask a local a question more than once, and he continues to answer "1100 pesos", he probably doesn't speak English. (I actually knew this already, but it was a good learning experience for Jim).

Whales are not real. Its really just a cruel joke. Like snipes.

......................................................................................................................................

The Mexican Riviera cannot handle the party that I am going to bring to it. Book reading included.

I'm just sitting here counting the reasons that I need a vacation, and daydreaming of living in Europe where they only work like 8 weeks of the year. I could totally live in a quaint little french town w/ a cobblestone street and the random goat passing by as I water the flowers in my garden. I might wave at the neighbor, and excuse myself b/c I'm just "a mess" with my apron on and hair up. Jim's at work in the mountians, yodeling or something.

Ah well...Lee's Summit's okay too I guess.

The word of the almighty mattnash has spoken.

I only have 45 minutes until I leave work...so I only have 45 minutes to read the goings-on of my soap opera, 'cause you know I only do that at work. Do it "As the World Turns"!! I hope Carly doesn't do something stupid with Nick Kasonov! gah! (or Grrrr if your a pirate).

Fridays are the best. I can sleep in till 9 am for the next 2 days!! It's rox0ring!

Tonight, Jim and I will be holding onto our Trivial Pursuit champion title. Playing for the 3rd straight win. Hopefully things will go well for us. The Chambers are no match for the Foulks.

I just recently finished a book called "Case Histories" by Kate Atkinson. I received this book for Christmas by my dear sister, Gwendollyn. This book was Stephen King's # 1 on his top 10 list. Not that I am a Stephen King fan (I've never really read any of his books), but I thought since he listed Harry Potter on his top 10 list, that this guy has got it all right. I'm not going to say that it was a bad book, but it just wasn't EXPLODEY. The characters where well developed, intriguing, and highly (perhaps overly) detailed. The plot of the book was quite meaty and the mystery of each particular case weaved itself into the greater overall story, but the ending was terribly lacking -- leaving far too much open endedness. I found that the climax was disappointing. It was entertaining enough, just not EXPLODEY. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being EXPLODEY, it would be, like, a 7. If you're into 7's, than read this book.

**Editor's note: This may be the first and last book review. I just really wanted to use the word "explodey" and felt that it belonged in a review of some sort. Also, I wanted to flaunt my hobby of reading, b/c I think it makes me sound smart (and pretentious and boring...but who doesn't want to be those things!?!??!)

Friday, January 20, 2006

Stinkin' reality T.V....it haunts me! It hooks me like a rainbow trout and then reels me in while I flail around trying to unleash myself from it's "watercooler conversation" goodness. This week I have been hunted and caught by the likes of "The Bachelor: Paris", "American Idol", "Ice Skating w/ Celebrities", "Dancing w/ the Stars", "American Idol" (again), and some wife shopping/swapping/switching show. Most of these television programs are on Fox. I won't even go into the implications of that one...

I am glad to say that I will not be watching the "The Bachelor" again...as that show sickens me. Seriously, it's like every girl on that show asked themselves "Where can I sign up for rejection? I know, on public television! It'll be great, I'll act all confident and loose, then cry when my worst fears are confirmed!! I am only half as beautiful as a supermodel! Just what I need for my waning self esteem!"

I have decided, after WASTING almost 6 hours of my life, that I have let go easy...I can't quit cold turkey, or go into re-hab. And lets face it, Survivor is starting soon and you know that the advertising dollars burned during that hour is money well spent...SO here's my plan. I will only be watching 1 new reality T.V. show this season...and the winner is "Ice Skating w/ Celebrities" (or "Ice Skating w/ drug rehabed and not funny comedian has-beens"). Who would want to miss out on the likes of Jillian Barber, Dave Collier, and that Buffy the Vampire slayer chick sustaining real injury, risking life and limb to be on T.V. again? Not me!

~ Courtnie

I spent last Friday night eatting Rasin Bran for dinner and playing Sodoku.

In other news...why am I so bugged about the Chiefs signing Herman Edwards? He had an awful year this year!! I have heard that it's the Jets organization that has the issues, but geez...you would think he had a little to do with it...and he's not the gentleman that Vermeil is. I bet he won't even cry. And who's gonna hug Dante?!?

And if it's going to be cold outside, it should snow.
