So I've been working on some paintings for the last week or two - and some of them came out alright, so they'll be in a show at Nucleus tommorrow night.  It was fun painting w/watercolor - it kicked my ass more often than not -but when you make it work it can be pretty nice.

There will also be some beautiful work from a bunch of freakishly talented artists - Yoko Tanaka, Robert Konda, Catia Chien and Kazu Kibuishi.  Should be neat, and if you haven't seen the new and glamorous Nucleus - check it ouuuut.

A couple sneak-previews...

Cloud Catching

Best Hat

Kitty Lost

Bad Unicorn

...and much more...come on out to the show :)

very nice paintings. the "bad unicorn" looks like a cross between the Stay-Puff Marshmellow man and Domokun!

Chris,

I was planning to make the trek down to SoCal to see the opening. I am huge fan of your work, Catia and Robert.  However, gas prices just makes it prohibitive.  For the package that I asked you to give to Catia, please give it to Ben. I know that Catia cannot make it to the opening but it is easiest for Ben to pass to Catia.

Your pieces ROCK!!!!!!!.  It is nice blend of beautiful Plein Air piece with a story character illustration.  Sensitive and beautiful.

Chris,

Congratulations again on this great group show with other fantastic artists. I ended up with 2 pieces.  As mentioned earlier, your pieces blend the spontaneity of Plein Air with  story telling and characterization. I will take care of these pieces with great consideration and care as they are water based.  For the pieces that I did not pick up, Bad Unicorn and Hurry Summer, they are equally amazing.  For Bad Unicorn, the setup and composition is very modern.  I can see the piece stand itself without the unicorn.  For "Hurry Summer", it emotes an unique feeling.  Honestly, I had the urge to snap up more pieces but refrained.  In art collecting, it is important not to be greedy so other can collect and enjoy.

As I mentioned to a friend recently, from works like yourself, Robert and Catia,  I am inspired to go back to museum to view artists that I skipped earlier in my life like Jackson Pollock and John Singer Sargent.

Bravo and Well done.

Wow! You are just SO incredibly talented. How do I KNOW you?! Well, through Maurene, but seriously...you are just an amazing artist. I can't even dream up what you paint of sometimes. I love the cloud catching with the fishy clouds. How did you think of that, you GENIUS?!

I also enjoy Bad Unicorn. He IS a bad unicorn! I just finished watching The Last Unicorn last week. Classic.

I want to give you an idea that you can totally steal - hmmm..maybe paint something with magnets? ahhaah..okay, not too creative but I thought for a good 30 seconds about what you could paint and all I could lamely think of was MAGNETS, because I'm teaching electricity, magnetism, and electromagnets in school this week. I'll think of something really good and then you should paint it. OOOOh - how about mistletoe! I dunno. You can ignore me now.
