Family Camp Lessons

Last week our family went to East Texas for a week long "Family Camp"

Each evening there was a "camp meeting" worship / teaching session. The main theme for this years Family Camp was the Wilderness Tabernacle - the "tent of meeting" that God commanded Moses to build and institute the Jewish mode of sacrifice. Of course later the pattern of the tabernacle was built in to Solomon's Temple.

The points that were driven home to me were:

1) The 4 sections of the Tabernacle and their purpose
    a) Alter of sacrifice
    b) Laver of cleansing
    c) Holy Place
    d) Holy of Holies

2) How God was RELATING to his people through these parts and purposes
3) How God used this as a pattern for His post-resurrection relationship to us

First ...

The early Jewish nation sacrificed continually on the Alter for the sin, guilt, thanks, etc. offerings.

The priests would then wash in the laver to purify themselves BEFORE they entered the Holy place.

AND .. only once a year  ... ONE of them would go into the Holy of Holies - into the presence of God

Second ...

God lived among His people but there were all these barriers and processes they had to go through for ONE of them to get into the same room as He was in.
Third ...

Of course, after the ONE sacrifice that Jesus provided for us - and the rending of the veil between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies and Jesus now being OUR High Priest who gives us

CONCLUSIONS:

1) We are to spend more time between the Laver (washing ourselves / cleansing ourselves from the dirt of the world/flesh that we pick up daily) and the ( now ) one room - Holy Place/Holy of Holies fellowshipping in prayer (incense), eating the Word (bread), following the light (menorrah/Jesus) and having that one on one - face to face - heart to heart relation with our GOD that He had with Adam/Eve before the fall.

2) Historically the people spent most of their time coming into the courtyard of the Tabernacle to hand over their sin, guilt, etc. sacrifices for the Priests to perform their duties with.

3) Two points:
a) Post resurrection we should spend most of our time between the Alter and the combined room Holy Place/Holy of Holies fellowshipping with our God as individuals and not continually focusing on our sacrifices. Yes, we need to recall how the ONE sacrifice paid for ALL our sin .. but

b) We should focus on who He is TODAY (Paul, Peter, John epistles and Revelation) ... while remembering what he did way back at the alter in the past. Instead of focusing on what He did in the past
(BIG TOE STEPPING HERE ... When we focus on the past (babe in manger, continually preach to the choir about our salvation, celebrate Christmas with all its TRADITIONS and trappings) WE ARE JUST LIKE THE JEWS WHO REJECTED CHRIST because they did not see the pattern of the Tabernacle and feared leaving the comfort level of what they had instead of embracing what they were being given going forward.

CERTIFICATION !!

FINALLY !!!    The team mentioned in the last post finally finished the certification test yesterday.  We completed the written test and on-water lessons way back ... but between our schedules and NO WIND we could never get the final on-water test completed. The last test is sorta like the parallel parking test for driving ... you will rarely ever do it, but you MUST have the concept of how to do it. In Sailing, that's called Man-Over-Board drills.

There are a dozen ways to do it, but there are at least two that are preferred. We finally pulled it off yesterday and we are now Basic Keel boat certified !!  With our certification and log book we can now rent up to 25' boats anywhere we go. It's also the first step to learning how to handle larger boats.

OK ... I'm in the BLOGGING mood tonight !!!

Lisa bought me a birthday present some time back - probably 5 years ago - I've just never taken advantage of it. She bought me sailing lessons.

Now many of you know I already know how to sail, but I've always wanted to pass a certification test and have the ability to sail something big enough to take the family out, instead of taking one or two kids at a time in the small boat I bought ion 1976 !!! YES .. the boat I had (sold it before we moved to Austin) was 10 years old when I bought it in 1976 and was 40 years old when I sold it.

So … over the last couple of months a few friends of mine and I ( discounted rates for more than one student ) have been taking these lessons. We are now “checked out” to rent a boat up to 25 feet.

So this morning I took three of the kids out for a spin on Lake Travis.

This is a "professional" shot of the boat we can rent

Here's a bunch more shots:

More happened today that I’ll blog about. When we got back from sailing – cleaned up – ate lunch, Reagan and I went out to the garage to start putting together the second of two bookshelves I’ve been building.

If any of you know – our family LOVES to read. So we have lots of books … which require LOTS of shelves. We have a couple of REALLY nice “cargo” book shelves that some friends of ours made us many years ago. We’ve been looking for some more – cheap. Not dice … they run $ 300 or more. So, handy-man that I think I am, I made plans for these “cargo” shelves based on the two sitting in our library. Here’s a shot of the first finished one. We’re pretty pleased with how it came out.

Here’s a shot of my carpenters helper doing the nailing assembly line. I line up the nails, he bangs them in. He actually almost ran out of steam knocking these things in. The boy LOVES to hammer … his arm was talking to him after this exercise.

Well that’s it for now … I’ll blog again in another quarter or two !!!

Hahahahahahahahaha.....

I guess I get to do it again, since I'm not at home    Daddy, I saw your comment on my post and yes, I can't help stepping on escargot when they position themselves all over the garden!  Besides, most of them were too small to eat -- you'd have to get about 20 before you got a decent mouthful.

Now the question is if you ever even look at your site and see my response to your question.

CROWING !!!

Well ... Obviously I've not blogged in a LOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGGG  time. But I've got something to really CROW about tonight !!

We received Fall semester grades from our oldest two daughters.

Juli pulled down 3 A's, (Greek, Principles of Biblical Reasoning and Freedom's Foundations) and 2 B's, (History of the Western World and Metaphysics). Actually Metaphysics was a B+.

Rebecca received 2 A's in her courses - French and English!

WO HOOO !!!

We're pretty proud of their efforts. Not just academically, but the personal growth they went through as they struggled with various issues during the semester. They REALLY grew and the grades measure just part of it.

Great going girls !!!
