OK ... I'm in the BLOGGING mood tonight !!!

Lisa bought me a birthday present some time back - probably 5 years ago - I've just never taken advantage of it. She bought me sailing lessons.

Now many of you know I already know how to sail, but I've always wanted to pass a certification test and have the ability to sail something big enough to take the family out, instead of taking one or two kids at a time in the small boat I bought ion 1976 !!! YES .. the boat I had (sold it before we moved to Austin) was 10 years old when I bought it in 1976 and was 40 years old when I sold it.

So … over the last couple of months a few friends of mine and I ( discounted rates for more than one student ) have been taking these lessons. We are now “checked out” to rent a boat up to 25 feet.

So this morning I took three of the kids out for a spin on Lake Travis.

This is a "professional" shot of the boat we can rent

Here's a bunch more shots:

More happened today that I’ll blog about. When we got back from sailing – cleaned up – ate lunch, Reagan and I went out to the garage to start putting together the second of two bookshelves I’ve been building.

If any of you know – our family LOVES to read. So we have lots of books … which require LOTS of shelves. We have a couple of REALLY nice “cargo” book shelves that some friends of ours made us many years ago. We’ve been looking for some more – cheap. Not dice … they run $ 300 or more. So, handy-man that I think I am, I made plans for these “cargo” shelves based on the two sitting in our library. Here’s a shot of the first finished one. We’re pretty pleased with how it came out.

Here’s a shot of my carpenters helper doing the nailing assembly line. I line up the nails, he bangs them in. He actually almost ran out of steam knocking these things in. The boy LOVES to hammer … his arm was talking to him after this exercise.

Well that’s it for now … I’ll blog again in another quarter or two !!!

Oh, I love the pictures of the family doing things together! I'm so glad the first sailing excursion went well. Something about the bookshelves: even if the monetary cost wasn't worth it, think of the memories Reagan will have!

Je vous aime beaucoup,
