Need to avoid....typing Linda's name...coz I will make a spelling mistake;  tuning to Futurerama coz I will laugh but without a loud background noice; and walking around the streets and corners in Manhattan coz our footprints are everywhere; can't order briyiani coz i will order the lamb one;  look at cute and cuttly people coz all of them reminds me of someone in david becker's email?  can't look at the glasses people wear coz they are all subjects in the joke of "somebody wearning a tiny pair of glasses".  losing one thing = adding on thousands of constraints.  life is funny....

The reading program with my little, oh no, my chubby brother to be exact, has been quite successful in the past year.  We have together read 78 pages of Eoin Colfer's Captain Crow's Teeth and had lots of fun!  Really glad to see him being able to read faster & understand so much more words ha... Today he told me for english week their class would need to prepare a skit.  When the teacher asked who wanted to be "mom", nobody raised hands and my brother was scratching his head, mistaken to be very interested and therefore, bingo!  He showed me the script later, the twist of the duck -> swam story is actually pretty nice :

Mom: Who are you?

Ugly Duckling:  It’s me!  Your son, ugly duckling!

Mom: Oh! My God!  How come!  Did you change to a beautiful swan two years ago? Why do you look like the same ugly duckling as you were born?

Ugly Duckling:  I don’t know.  I changed to a beautiful swan and swam to England to study English two years ago.  I met a girl there and we got married.  Then we had a baby last year. (Duckling’s wife and son nod to Mom).  I graduated from the university last month and I wanted to come back to see you.  When I swam past Yellow River in China, I ate a fish there.  The fish looked nice.  But once I swallowed it, I changed back to what I used to be.  Human beings said the fish in China are not safe to eat.  I should have listened to them!

to be thankful of 2006:

  • having you standing beside me...through our frustration and quarrels, and of course happy time together~  loved our duet in Karaoke, trip to Mohonk & kati roll company :) , participating in Dance Manhattan self-help holiday party, my show time in Central park skating ring, and meeting you in good old chicago~
  • really really lucky being able to find the current apartment w/ very nice roomates ( even though one of them borrowed my own buck of green tea ice-cream the other day)  The whole drama was quite 'daunting': being kicked out from my old place, and found a temp place the night before moving out, and found a perm place in the same building as the temp place, arh, so thankful!
  • having fun most of the time at work - indeed it is quite fun watching the market move.  never imagined before to actually trade, was a great learning experience so far!
  • knowing more friends in NYC - even though rather patheticly they are almost all chinese and work in finance....doh!  went up to 230 5th again yesterday and all wearing red cape on the roof top - reminds me of the little "secret society" me and my elementary schoolmates set up when we were....8 years old, which also involves occupation of residential building rooftops w/ our stickers, oh the security guards, and well done security checks..
  • Bao bao's wedding! Congratulations again!  you look so nice that day...like a small cute bao ahaha...and the old nice pasadena, san marino, caltech, book shop....
  • and all the other happy matters...!

[edit] there never seems to be an end to exams in my life:

Series 55, Series 3, 4 remaining half-quarter classes at U chicago, CFA III (mom told me i should finish it up, prob. a gd idea),  hopefully that will be all....arh!

I love New York!  I think I finally got used to the darkness and the mouse running around the city and the long long lines outside most eateries But I have to say:

  • it was realllllly nice meeting my high school mate lydia and her cute settlement in new jersey (2 blocks from my place bala).  you are like a big sis when it comes to hosting a party and "order / tease" people around! haha...you are truly fun!
  • i am looking forward to the thanksgiving parade (balloons!!!) and the dinner following that.  i started to love cooking and chef yoke will be cooking just like a maniac!
  • so nice to meet ing ing and sharing all the 'choi' and 'jiu' and endless painless topics on our relationship hahahah all happening in chinatown
  • looking at the city lights from the roof top of 230 5th avenue is lovely (would admit the 1st time when I went there, it was July when all the new people started in wall street and this place was like a "zoo")
  • it's so dumb that I sat in barnes and nobles and all i can think about were the okonomiyaki 2 blocks to my right and the fresh flowers at whole food 2 blocks to my left, it is too stupid to think about worldly temptations all da time!
  • loved jogging along hudson river
