Shiny treasure!

I was walking to the post office today when I noticed a shiny object on the floor. As I leaned over to pick it up from the dirty New York sidewalk, it moved. Thinking it absurd that a solid object would move without a push, I stood up and glanced around. One never knows when at the end of a practical joke. However, looking around me revealed not a soul. Unless you count the two old ladies with shopping bags waiting for the M15. I looked down again, expecting to see the goddamned shiny object. What do you know. It was nothing more than a gum wrapper.

As with all New York City mini-adventures (or perhaps adventures the world over), its easy to find something that bears closer inspection. You never know what you'll find. Most often though, all that's really there is a piece of dirt painted with no little gilt. Disappointments abound in this grand ole city and I, for one, am more than satisfied with a cup of booze, cigarettes, and chocolate.
