| I Love LucySimple joys.
I Love Lucy is on again. It keeps me company when no one is home. There's something about those four familiar faces that is comforting, they make me laugh. Mostly there is something comforting about that period of time. Something joyous about that generation that I miss. My grandparents generation which is slowly slipping away into the afterlife. I saw an old couple in Target a few days ago and they made me smile. There was something so simple about them, their common courtesy their eye contact, their ability to actually communicate with the outer world. They weren't surrounded by a bubble of personal space with a sign hung up upon them saying, "do not touch, look or talk to my bubble." Life was simpler then, in those black and white worlds. I remember my Nana, how she would find joy in the simplest of jokes. Her laughter still rings in my head. When I was little I thought my Gramps was the funniest man in the world. He was still charming when I got older but as I became more complex, raised by wolves in this world, I did not find him so funny. But my Nana still laughed. I love my mom, mostly because even though she isn't part of her parents generation, she embodies that simple joy. She doesn't understand sarcasm, she laughs like my Nana did, and she does not live in a bubble, no sign is hung around her neck. I strive to be like her. To be like her and my grandparents generation. It's hard when I've been raised in a society of wolves, lone, independent and sharp. So I watch my TV screen, black and white images, so simple, so charming, so warm. Lucy makes me smile, and I chuckle realizing that they are right, I do love Lucy, and that entire generation. | | |
| I hate being shyHaving new roomates is the hardest thing for me. First of all I'm an only child, so I grew up with my own room, and my own bathroom, and everything had it's own spot. I love everything in it's own spot, where it belongs. I like picking a place, and putting my stuff there, and that is my place, and no one elses. Although I was shy with my last roomates at least I had my own space with my own little shelf in the kitchen and my own little drawer in the refrigerator, and my own little spot in the bathroom. So I get a little spastic/nervous when everyone moves in and them mixes everything up. It's so hard to get used to change when you are like me, and you are slightly OCD, and like to have everything to be in it's own spot. My roomate Kimberly is great, we've been living together for a year, and we both have our own spaces, and everything is cool, it's just hard for me to get used to the way other people do things. I keep thinking of Donald Miller and how he describes himself in Blue Like Jazz, and I'm just like him in many ways. Some people think we are annoying or mean, but we just like our own personal space, and it's so hard for people like us to live with five other people. Especially when you are shy, and the sudden introduction of four new people comes into your personal life. It's sooooo hard. Often my shyness comes off as unfriendly, or pridefull, like "I'm better than you so I don't have to talk to you right now, I'm just going to order you around and then leave you in the dust." When really what is going on in my head is, "ok, don't panic, they don't really hate you, they're looking at you like they hate you, but they don't, so just tell them what you need to and then run, so you won't say anything more that will make them hate you more." So yeah, that is my life right now. Living with other people, terrified of change, and shy as heck, but mostly worrying that they hate me because all of those things come off like I'm just a biotch. So like Donald Miller, I'm just trying to die unto self each day and not worry about self or my own privacy, or the fact that I can't sleep in when a new roomate leaves the door to my room open. I just need to not care and instead love on people. But not only is that a challenge cause humans by nature are naturally selfish, but because I'm so shy that I often just hide in my room and not come out until I have to, like for food. Or to make sure that Thomas doesn't die while killing a black widow that lives right outside of the glass slidding door that is next to my bed (black widow's freak me out and cause me not to sleep very well). So yeah, that's my life. I hate being shy. | | |
