    Big News!

So if you haven't heard by now we are having a girl.  Emily and I went to the doctor on Friday and they confirmed what everyone (including Emily) thought.  Even my financial planner had put a life insurance policy together for...our daughter.  He figured he had a 50/50 chance, but he was sure it was a girl back in April.  With that decided we can start painting, buying clothes (Emily's especially excited about that), and think of names.  That may be the most stressful part of the whole process.  A name is very important.

Here are two of the sonogram pictures:

    1) This is a picture of her face and her left arm I believe...

    face and arm

    2)  This is a picture of her her profile.  This is my favorite.

Overall I am probably most surprised about how the sonographers can actually tell what they're looking at.  To me it just looks like a bunch of black and white shadows.  Every now and then I'd see the spine, face, or something that made our alien daughter look a little more normal.  Other than that it was just a crazy blob of stuff.

One other baby milestone - I felt the baby kick last night.  I'm not sure if that's on schedule or not, but it sure seems early.  Emily had me feel because she said that she was kicking a lot, and sure enough.  You could see my fingers raise.  Pretty cool!

    A Weekend by Myself

There are many nights that I leave my wife at home while I attend a rehearsal, meeting, or other church event.  This weekend she returned the favor.  Emily traveled back to her home in Keokuk for a wedding.  Luckily she got accross the Mississippi.  We were wondering for a while.  So Maggie (our dog) and I have been sitting around the house doing random things.

We woke up at 9:00a.m. (very late for both me and Maggie).  Then I layed around and watched "That's So Raven."  Yes - I confess.  This is probably my preferred Saturday morning entertainment.  I was especially pleased because there were 2 new episodes on this morning.

The rest of the day has included some laudry, cleaning, recaulking the bathtub, and going for a run.  Now I think I'm going to join some friends for dinner.  Then it's off to the grocery store.  I was always told it's better to go shopping for food after you're full.  Lately I've been acused of spending too much at the grocery.  I keep trying to convince Emily that food is just more expenseive.

Tomorrow it will be an easier day at church.  I'm leading at our Southwest Campus.  That means 1 instead of 3 services.  I also hope to see my old boss Matt Stafford from Ozark.  His team is in Springfield tomorrow night for a concert.  Then the weekend will be over and I'll start it all over again....only my wife will be back!

  • This Weekend

This weekend was a very eventful one.

Friday was my birthday.  I turned 26.  That's really starting to sound kind of old isn't it?  We had a bunch of people over to celebrate with cake (pineapple upsidedown cake - my favorite) and homemade ice cream - yum!

On Saturday my parents came over to go to my graduation.  I finished my master's degree this fall.  The funny thing is that I don't feel like I'm a Master at anything.  I think if anything Seminary taught me to ask better questions.  After a complimentary lunch we went to the first ever Seminary-only graduation.  Then it was off to Dairy Queen to celebrate.  My parents got me a great gift for graduating - a TomTom.  If you're not familiar with TomToms it's a GPS device that is absolutely incredible.  I've had more fun playing with it today...I think everyone should get one.  It kind of makes me want to go on a big road trip.

Then today we all went to church and then to lunch - Bennigan's.  Bennigan's was a good idea because there was no wait...remember that for next year!

Here's a few pictures of the weekend...

  • Lamentations

I was reading through Lamentations this morning. (Not something I often...or have ever really done for that matter)  I thought that this one section was so interesting.  This is Lamenations 3:28-33 in the Message.

When life is heavy and hard to take,  go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions:  Wait for hope to appear.  Don’t run from trouble. Take it full-face. The “worst” is never the worst.  Why? Because the Master won’t ever walk out and fail to return.  If he works severely, he also works tenderly.  His stockpiles of loyal love are immense.  He takes no pleasure in making life hard, in throwing roadblocks in the way.

My guess is that some of us needed to hear that today.  Have a good Thursday!

About Me

  • I am a music minister in central Illinois. I am married to wife Emily of over 4 years. Though we do not have any children yet, we do have a minature schnauzer that can be a bit of a brat! I always enjoy a trip to Starbucks (probably too often) and as anyone else, time well spent with good friends.
