Update on my little car thief:

The night after she pulled that stunt...(and if you don't know what I'm talking about, see the post below this.) ...there was a car that kept cruising up and down our road over and over, even stopped right in front of our house several times. I had a feeling that it was probably one of Amber's friends coming by to pick her up for another joy ride....so it didn't happen. I ended up staying awake all night, worrying about it, so then I thought this is NOT going to keep happening. Oh, and since there are only 2 houses on this road, the vehicle had only two places to go. We live way out in the boonies here, not much else around us.

First, to combat the problem, I had bought a little key box with a combination lock on it and a bell inside it, and hung it right over my head above the bed. So no, she couldn't take my keys without me knowing it even when I was sleeping. She doesn't have the combination.

Next, we are having a Brinks Alarm System installed that will announce loudly whenever anyone comes in or goes out any window or door. Besides that, we replaced our bolt lock with one that has to be opened and closed with a key. And the key is in that little box...right where I can get to it.

I decided that I'd rather have Huntsville Prison right here at my house then have her kill herself or me worry all night long and go without sleep. Ain't happenin'.

On top of all that, I've promised her the joys of boot camp if she does anything like that ever again....and I meant it! I also reminded her that I have a gun in my room and that if someone was sneaking in one of my windows, then they might just get shot, since anyone sneaking in would be considered a burglar or a rapist or a murderer....and not a friend. Friends call before they come and DO NOT sneak in windows.

I think she got the point.

Oh, and to answer some of the questions:

How did Doug take it? *snorts* you don't want to know.

Was it the same little friend she always gets into trouble with? Yep.....the same one that she left skateland with and walked a mile in the dark with. Now, THAT friend is off limits.

I knew there was a reason God did not bless with a daughter!!  Especially if she was anything like I was....I think I already blogged about how, when I was 14, I stole my Dad's, my Brother's & my Mom's cars to go joy riding but, I was a good driver (still am) and I never got in an accident or got a ticket...all I did was get caught, EVERYTIME!! With that said, times are far different nowadays, children are far different and I agree completely with how you have handled this. I love the Brinks solution...wish I had thought of that although my son never did anything. But had I had a girl.....I'm not sure I would have survived!!

You are a great Mom & I am sure that Amber will realize this soon enough.

Oh My Deb... Just reading this takes me back to when my boys were in their teens.  *SHRIEK* I would never want to go through all that again... and I guess I'm glad I had boys... because I am certain if they were girls, I would have been a VERY young Grandma!

Do what ya can... Pray... Take Xanax... Drink.... Pray some more. (((((((((GREAT BIG HUGS))))))))))  You deserve many MANY hugs!

I did that -once-. Only...-once-.

Anyway, my daughter is getting -big!- and my son is walking around a bit more on his own. Hopefully, he won't need braces for his legs. Time will tell, I suppose.

Have a great weekend!

Well, what your daughter did was REALLY stupid.  But sooner or later, she'll want to be earning your trust again.  If nothing else, as you've discovered, it's expensive not trusting people (installing alarms, locks, etc.)  I hope you'll eventually feel up to giving her the opportunity to redeem herself.  We're all human, we made mistakes as kids...  I guess if I had kids, I'd rather they total the car then say, get knocked up, or get HIV, or get arrested for drugs, or kill themselves, or...  well, you get the idea.  There are a lot of mistakes to be made in this world.  Anyway, good luck to both of you.

I'm glad that you came up with a solution. I hope Doug blistered her butt, but then, you have never let him spank her in the past, even though she definitely needing it this time.

By the way, is she banned from the computer? If yes, she's busted... every night about 2-3 AM your time.

Strong measures you're taking Debi.  I hope they work.  I don't remember anything much working against very rebellious strong-willed teenagers. They just find some other shit to pull.  (Yes, I've been there, done that, got all the ripped up t-shirts with safety pins through them, lol).
