Hi Everyone!! It's been such a long time since I have posted anything. Live seems to just fly by. I had a great night the other night and I just want to tell the world. I invited 12 young ladies to my house to play Bunco...it' was so much fun! My Tunisian friends just loved it. We will be playing it once a month now, I have convinced them of this game. We has such a good time eating and laughing. I will post some pictures soon.

I am doing well. I am finally settled here in my new house. I have 2 great roommates. It is much better to live with people then to be alone. I don't have anything interesting to say...but I am sure I will if I keep posting things more regularly.

Wow, I am leaving in less then 2 weeks now.  I can't believe it's coming so soon.  Packing is a bit harder this time because of the new luggage rules.  Nothing over 50 pounds and no liquids or gels in carry on.  CRAZY...  Guess it's better to be safe then sorry.

returning "home"??

Yeah, I know, it's been so long since I have written anything.  I guess I am not so good at this xanga thing.  I will try to get better at it when I go back to North Africa.  Just to let all my friends know...I will be leaving for North Africa on Sept 11th.  I have such mixed feelings at the moment.  I am looking forward to getting back into the groove of things again.  Working with the people that God has me with, starting a fitness center, and studying Arabic once again.  I also look forward to getting into my STL Car again...for all you A/G people out there.

I feel as if these past 6 months have flown by yet, on the other hand, it feels like I have adapted back into the American lifestyle again which makes North Africa seem worlds away.  I am glad that I had changed and was not the same when I returned back to the states.  My life is richer because of the things I experienced and learned while living in Arab nations.  I feel as if I slowly acclimated back into the mundane western lifestyle of busyness and individualism.  I was fighting against that but must have slowly given in.

This makes me wonder what it will be like when I return to my house in North Africa.  Will I again face culture shock?  Will I love it as much as I did when I left?  Will I feel isolated and alone?  Will I again face the feelings of homesickness?  My hope is that I will smoothly transition myself back into the life I left 6 months ago.

Flag Burning...

I have been reading in the paper and watching on the news the new issues of Flag Burning...and I have some thoughts on the matter.  First let me say that I am an American and proud of it.  I believe in our country it's people.  I don't think anyone should burn the flag.  Now that that is said I need to throw out my opinion.

I think this bill is VERY hypocritical.  We have our military in a country in the Middle East trying to bring democracy and justice.  We are trying to show the rest of the world what it means to be a free society, fighting against regimes that are lead by a dictator.  We are trying to give people freedom and yet we are taking away a fundamental right of an American to have a freedom to express themselves, a freedom of speech.  I live in one of these countries run by a dictator.  The people are afraid to even say the name of the president let alone burn a flag.  In this country people are forced to put up flags and pictures of their president in every store.  There is a total lack of freedom to express their true feelings.  A person would be thrown in jail for burning the flag or picture of the president in public.  Yet, we as Americans would say, "That is unjust".  And we want to do the same thing in our country?  Are we truly a free society?

OK, so I went into this Arab restaurant/store and bought some Zatar.  I walked up to the counter and of course there were like 5 Arab men standing around talking.  I felt like I was right back in the Middle East.  I put the Zatar on the counter and the guy said..."hold on, I have to go look up the price."  I said "mush muskley" as he walked off.  He stopped in his tracks and turned around and said "did you just speak in Arabic?" I said, yeah.  The other guys were stunned.  One of the guys behind me then asked me in Arabic if I spoke Arabic and I said yeah, then told them where I had studied.  They were so surprised it was funny!  We then proceeded to have a conversation about where I lived etc.  I had two friends with me and periodically the guy would apologize to my friends saying..."sorry but she is speaking Arabic with us" it was so funny!!!  I love the shock value.  He then gave me a gift of cheese balls rolled in Zatar, which is a VERY Arab thing to do.  I had a great time, that made my day.
