Good times...

Then I come back to some nice weather this past weekend and run a 9.3 mile Colon Cancer race...
I improved from last year...

NYC ING Marathon, NOV 4, 2007

ING New York City Marathon 2007

So it looks like they're going to start accepting applications as of Monday 2/12/07.

Feels good that I don't have to go through the lottery anymore....  Can't wait!!!.. Who wants to join me in the run??

http://www.ingnycmarathon.org/entrantinfo/applyfor2007_new.php

ING New York City Marathon 2007
Application and Instructions

When will the application be available?
The application for the ING New York City Marathon 2007 will be available on February 12 at noon.

Who can apply?
Anyone who will be 18 or older on Sunday, November 4, 2007, may apply for entry. The starting field will consist of over 38,000 entrants from more than 100 countries and all 50 states. Only one application per person, please. Any fees processed due to individuals submitting duplicate applications are non-refundable.

Please note: Handcycle applications will only be accepted from persons who have been members of Achilles Track Club since January 31, 2006.

Lottery Applications
Lottery applications from individuals with a U.S. address will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on June 1, 2007. Non-U.S. lottery applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on May 1, 2007.

Because the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces available, we will not be able to accept all applicants. The majority of U.S. entrants, including athletes with disabilities, will be selected in a random lottery drawing in mid-June 2007. Most international entrants come through our Official International Travel Partners [ITP] (formerly known as "tour operators"), so only a portion (including athletes with disabilities) will be selected through a lottery drawing in mid-May. In 2006, nearly 50 percent of all U.S. lottery applications were accepted, and approximately 25 percent of non-U.S. lottery applications were accepted.

Guaranteed Entry Options
Those who are eligible for guaranteed entry must still apply. Guaranteed entry applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on May 1, 2007.

The following groups are eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2007:

• Members of New York Road Runners since January 31, 2006, who completed at least nine NYRR-scored, qualifying races during the calendar year 2006. [NYRR members can check their member history by clicking here.]

• Entrants in the ING New York City Marathon 2006 who canceled prior to the race.

• Those who have completed 15 or more New York City Marathons.

• Those who have applied but been denied entry for the last three years in a row (2004, 2005, and 2006). Send an email to marathonmailer@nyrr.org after you apply and we'll check our archives.

If you meet the above requirements, special instructions will be sent in late February. (If you don't receive the instructions by mid-March, apply with the regular lottery application. After you apply, send an email to marathonmailer@nyrr.org with a short note mentioning why you qualify for guaranteed entry.

• Runners who meet the following qualifying time standards* on any certified course:

** Your age on the day of the qualifying race.

You must have met the appropriate qualifying time between January 1, 2006, and May 1, 2007. Include the race name and date with your application or email marathonmailer@nyrr.org with the race information after you apply.

Guaranteed Entry Through Charity Program
In 2007, our charity program returns to offer runners the opportunity to give back to the community while receiving guaranteed entry. [More]

Once selected, charity entrants may not cancel without prior approval from their charity.

Guaranteed Entry Through Official International Travel Partners
(For those who live outside the United States) Guaranteed entry along with the purchase of a tour package may be available through an Official International Travel Partner [ITP] (formerly known as "tour operator") in your country or territory. You may only apply with an ITP in your country or territory — ITP's cannot accept applicants from other countries.

An entrant who has purchased a "Marathon Package" with an Official International Travel Partner [ITP] and wishes to withdraw from the race must contact their ITP directly. The ITP will inform NYRR of an entrant's decision to withdraw. Any withdrawn entrant will not receive guaranteed entry into the ING New York City Marathon 2008 or subsequent ING New York City Marathons. [List of Official International Travel Partners]

So to start the 2007 year, I want to do all the 1/2 marathons for all the 5 boroughs...

I just did the Manhattan one 2 weeks ago, and let me tell you.. It was FREEZING!!!.. I never ran with my fleece on the whole race and had to put my gloves back on.
The water they were giving out was frozen.. and stuck to the table!!! But it was still fun, and I have to start running more.  Bronx 1/2 marathon is coming up in 2 weeks.

So I finished in 1:48:11... Could've done better, but it was cold and I haven't ran in over a month. Central park Hills.. No joke.. Second time up cat's hill, I almost wanted to walk!!
Hopefully I can break under 1:40 in the Bronx half, depending on how the course is.

So after the 13.1 miles, I went to San Francisco!

Imagine running up those hills.. Well.. I plan on coming back out in May to run these hills!!!

Crash your car, Blame the Stars..

By Reuters

Never mind how careful you are behind the wheel or how long you've been driving, the signs of the zodiac may be bigger factors behind your ability to avoid car crashes -- or why you have too many.

According to a study by InsuranceHotline.com, a Web site that quotes drivers on insurance rates, astrological signs are a significant factor in predicting car accidents.

The study, which looked at 100,000 North American drivers' records from the past six years, puts Libras (born between Sept. 23 and Oct. 22) followed by Aquarians (born between Jan. 20 and Feb. 18) as the worst offenders for tickets and accidents.

Leos (July 23-Aug. 22) and then Geminis (May 21-June 20) were found to be the best overall. "I was absolutely shocked by the results," said Lee Romanov, president of Toronto-based InsuranceHotline.com.

Romanov also wrote the book "Car Carma," which touches on the correlation between astrological signs and driving ability while doing the study.

Romanov originally wanted to have some fun by examining astrological signs as a possible cause for the variance between insurance companies quoting high and low rates but didn't expect to find anything interesting.

"Now, changing postal codes is far less significant to me than drivers of certain astrological signs," she said.

Even age, another variable for determining insurance rates, is less of a consideration to Romanov.

The cutoff line for being considered a higher risk driver is 24 years of age; 25-year-olds are considered not high risk.

"I'd rather get into a car with a 24-year-old Leo than a 25-year-old Aries," Romanov said.

Leos, described along with the study results, are "generous, and comfortable in sharing the roadway." Aries, on the other hand, "have a 'me first' childlike nature that drives Aries into trouble."

"I wasn't believing in it before," said Romanov. "But I would think twice before getting into a car with an Aries."

Copyright 2006 Reuters.

Here are the Astrological Signs that had the most influence over drivers, causing them to have the greatest number of tickets and accidents, from worst to best.

Number 1 Worst :
Libra - Sept. 23 to Oct. 22
Libra is the "sign of the scales", it craves balance and consensus. Libra doesn’t like to make snap decisions. But rush hour traffic is not a time for seeking driver approval, or for being indecisive.
2nd Worst Position :
Aquarius - Jan. 20 to Feb. 18
They’re impulsive, and ruled by the Planet of speed and rebellion. Aquarians need to get a better grip behind the wheel.
3rd Worst Position :
Aries - Mar. 21 to Apr. 19
Its symbol is the ram. Not good a sign to have for avoiding accidents. Aries have a "me first" child-like nature, that drives Aries into trouble.
4th Worst Position :
Pisces - Feb. 19 to Mar. 20
This sign enjoys daydreaming. So wake up Pisces, driving in the “real world" requires your complete attention.
5th Worst Position :
Scorpio - Oct. 23 to Nov. 21

The scorpion’s instinct is to get revenge, and driving is the perfect avenue to vent a little Scorpion road rage. If you pass a Scorpio, plan on being chased.
6th Worst Position :
Taurus - Apr. 20 to May 20
The astrological sign for Taurus is the bull. They’re stubborn, and have an urge to charge at red lights.
7th Worst Position :
Sagittarius - Nov. 22 to Dec. 21
They’re risk-takers, but they’re experienced risk takers, and know that stunt driving should be left to the professionals. This is a talkative group, and they should consider putting their cell phone down and just driving.
8th Worst Position :
Capricorn -  Dec. 22 to Jan. 19
Capricorn is goal oriented. They’re more concerned about the destination than the journey. They feel that the rules of the road are for other drivers to follow so that Capricorns can get to their destination faster.
9th Worst Position :
Virgo - Aug. 23 to Sept. 22
Virgos have a nervous attention to detail. They made the cover of the Car Carma book. They’d be slamming their brakes on to avoid hitting a squirrel, but cause a 10 car pile-up.
3rd Best Position :
Cancer - June 21 to July 22
They’re homebodies, and consider the roadway of drivers their extended family. But they’re a moody group, and would be the ones to honk at you for no reason at all.
2nd Best Position :
Gemini - May 21 to June 20
Geminis are the original multi-taskers. They can eat, drink, read the newspaper, shave, or apply make-up all while driving, although this is NOT recommended, even if you're a Gemini. It’s the sign of the twins; while one is driving the other co-pilots.
Number 1 Best :
Leo - Jul. 23 to Aug. 22
Leo is generous, and comfortable in sharing the roadway. They‘re known for having a huge ego, which is their driving force to be the best.

Very interesting article....... Who's and Aries and Libra here?

I'm a Leo, so dont worry about me..haha..I may, or used to, drive wrecklessly, but I'm a safest reckless driver there is. =D
