| With all the traveling lately, I've managed to start reading the many unread books on my bookshelf again. I say "again" because many of these books I've started reading but never finished. On the last flight, I got halfway through Shadow of the Almighty by Elisabeth Elliot. It's about the life of her husband Jim Elliot, missionary in Ecuador that was killed by the Indian tribe he went to share Jesus with. She compiles the numerous letters he wrote to his family, friends and herself. I'm halfway through and reading through his age of 22. I must say, I am amazed by his letters! His depth of writing, his florid descriptions of his struggles and joys in God, his steadfast determination to seek God's will...the maturity of his writing is quite thought provoking. I love his honesty and the great discipline he has. I can't imagine that in myself at the age of 22 (not now either). How interesting it is that you can learn so much about someone's character and values through simple words on a page. How inspiring!
An oft quoted credo of his: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."

| A glimpse at what I've been up to the past few months....
Biking through the streets of downtown LA with thousands of other cyclists on an early, exhilarating morning ride. Jamming spontaneously on the guitar and/or piano. Learning about and tasting wine in a damp, cool cellar tasting room built into a Napa hillside. Awing over the way God surprises me with beautiful greenery as I drive through hilly areas. Eating and walking my way through the bustling liveliness of New York City. Deliberating the age old question of what to do with my life. Drinking in the mesmerizing performance of Wicked that I've been anticipating for two and a half years. Laughing through midnight ab workouts with my roommates. Training (sort of) for my very first "big" sporting event - a sprint triathlon! Cherishing the friendships that God has blessed me with and realizing how much I really am blessed by them. Enjoying the sweet fragrance of walking by a field of ripe strawberries. Fighting daily to love Jesus with all of me and place my hope in Him alone.
It's been a challenging year so far, despite all the fun times there have been too. Doing my best to persevere, be continually grateful, and trust. Pictures perhaps if/when I get around to it.
