24 Books in 12 Months

Does anyone really even read xanga anymore?

Well, I thought I'd post here anyway.

Thanks to the Office of Letters and Light's declaration that 2007 is The Year of Doing Big, Fun, Scary Things Together,  I've decided to attempt to read 24 books in one year.  Now, this may not seem like a great feat to many people, but it is for me.  It usually takes me a couple of months to get through a book because I rarely have find time to read.  I spend way too much time doing nothing on the computer when I could be doing something more astute, like reading, which I love to do.  So, here's my list of books so far:

1. Gilead (finished)
2. Marie Antoinette: The Journey (currently reading)
3. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
4. Julie & Julia
5. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
6. Pride & Prejudice
7. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
8.
9. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
10.
11. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
12.
13.  Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
14.
15. The Fellowship of the Ring
16.
17. The Two Towers
18.
19. Return of the King
20.
21.
22.
23.
24.

As you can see, I have a number of blank spots that I need to fill.  I know I can walk into Borders and find a number of books I would like to read, but I also would like recommendations.  So, if you know of a book that I must absolutely read, feel free to suggest it.  Thanks in advance.

w00t! Those are some big ones you're taking one, doing the Lord of the Rings Trilogy! =) I would highly recommend reading The Hobbit prior to those three, simply because 1) it's an awesome book, and 2) it's still an awesome book, oh and 3) it actually gives a lot of meaning to the trilogy itself. Um... I'm reading Plato's Symposium right now... it's pretty fun. But other than that, it took me a year to get through my last book, so I'm not one to really talk.
Best wishes on your goal to get through 24!
And I'll have to look into this NaNoWriMo Editing thing. Sounds fun. =)
And yea, we still read xanga! At least I do. But that's me. This is the REAL blog world.

Here are a few of my fave novels:
1. Cain! - James Byron Huggins (for review, visit http://www.eclectica.org/v1n11/klausner_cain.html -- this is probably my favorite contemporary novel of all, contemporary being within the last 10 years)
2. A Wolf Story - Huggins
3. The Oath - Peretti
4. Leviathan - Huggins
Um... I'm a fan of Huggins. And I like action/suspense/drama novels. Classics are always good, too, I love the Scarlet Pimpernel and the Scarlet Letter. Seriously, the red connection has nothing to do with it. Little Women is a keeper, but you've probably already read that one. But seriously, Plato's Symposium is not that "ooo, wow, so deep" at all... it's just a bunch of men with hangovers sitting around celebrating a guy's first published work of poetry by praising what they view to be "Love." It's even quite comical in some spots, and chock full of homosexual undertones. Them damn Greeks.
More suggestions to come! Now I'm salivating over books... hmmmm...

If you like books that follow the vein of Frank Peretti, I would HIGHLY recommend Ted Dekker. He's my favorite fiction author, hands down. So... "Black", "White", "Red", "Bless The Child", "A Man Called Blessed", "House" (co-written by Frank Peretti), "Showdown", "When Heaven Weeps", "The Martyr's Song", "Thunder of Heaven", "Obsessed", "Heaven's Wager", and "Thr3e"... which actually just came out in theaters as a movie. The Black, White, Red trilogy might be my favorite of all of them though.

Oliver Twist, by Dickens... A Time to Kill... anything by Kurt Vonnegut is rather interesting fiction...
