from harvest christian fellowship's periodic email tonight:
Dear Danny,
When I completed Lost Boy,
the book and the documentary, I was able to look back on my life with
20/20 hindsight and get a sense of the big picture. I could see that,
despite my difficult childhood, God had used it to help me do what I do
today.
In fact, the film ended with my family
walking down the street smiling. My wife Cathe, my son Jonathan, my
daughter-in-law Brittany, my granddaughter Stella, and, of course,
Christopher. It was almost as if to say, "They all lived happily ever
after."
Then Christopher unexpectedly died and everything changed. It was as
though the back cover of my book had been ripped off and new chapters
were to be added.
The ink is still wet on these new chapters in my life, and I am not sure how how this story will unfold.
But I know this, God is good and He is still in control!
As I look back on my life, I can see how good the Lord has been to me
and my family. And my prayer is that He will be glorified through all
that has happened.
I would like to say this has all gotten easier, but it has not. In some
ways, it is even harder. The hard reality of not seeing my son again on
this earth is sinking in.
Yes, I know I will see him again in heaven, but I just so wish he could
be with us now. Fortunately, that day of reunion will come for me and
all of us who have loved ones who have gone to heaven before us.
When I spoke at the Southern California Harvest just a few weeks ago, I
wove in the story of my son and how this has affected us. But I also
told people that no matter how difficult your trials, God will be
walking with you through it.
Take the worst-case scenario in life—finding out you are going to die,
or having someone close to you die, or having your child die before
you. Now know this—Jesus will be there for you, tears in His eyes,
walking with you.
You know certain things are true, but you wonder if you can still stand
in this hour. You can and you will, if you have Christ!
One man whose son had died wrote this about his faith: "Faith is a
footbridge that you don't know will hold you over the chasm until
you're forced to walk out unto it."
I am on that footbridge right now, and I can tell you, it's sound.
Yes, new chapters are being written in my story, and in yours too. May
God help us all seek to glorify Him as He writes them.
God bless you,

| "What gets you out of bed in the morning - an alarm clock or a calling?" - Greg Laurie
last night our bible study was on Matthew 5:
An Eye for an Eye
38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
Love for Enemies
43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. I have been frustrated with people in the past. And the whole phenomenon of liking people who like you and hating those who hate you - it seems to be a natural human response. In trying to undo that and be more Christ-like, I also find that withholding anger is not the same as loving someone. I've noticed it about myself. When someone treats me well or when there is amicable interaction, the feelings of conflict go away. But when Jesus asks me to have love for a person even before they are nice or even past neutral... I find it very difficult. Actually it's humbling.

| Choose God's Love
I listened to these three messages and will need to listen to them again. If you've heard one or two of my favorite James MacDonald messages (not that i'm a message connoisseur), it has aspects of each one integrated into it. It's about God's love, something that is central to everything anyone may need to know. This messages is for the Christian, the backsliding, and especially the non-Christian.

| the day before labor day. it was going to be a boring hot sunday afternoon. definitely started out lazy. but we changed it! josh took us (will, alan, eric, and me) through these one-lane backroads in the fremont hills. i had no idea there were ranches here! definitely will have to do more exploring later. and perhaps mountain biking :) (once i get my tubes and tires)
the high res pics are still on josh's camera but i took a couple with my phone.

and going even more backwards, saturday i went with eric and james to san rafael to check out a honda civic. i rode up there, which was pretty boring since i had to go 65 mph the whole way. but the way back down the peninsula was great. i went on the golden gate bridge (which i have never done on the bike), through the presidio, and through golden gate park... all the way down along laguna honda. then i made my way to san bruno. that evening i hung out with justin and jt... went to a cool little
japanese place in daly city. it literally had space for 13 people! the
food was pretty good and very reasonably priced. | | |
