The allergy testing went a lot better than I expected. They call it a "scratch test" and that's exactly what it was. They barely scratched his back with each of the serums and it was all on a grid on his back. Think the dot game we used to play as kids! Anyway, they did basic molds, pollens, weeds, trees, some pets, some foods and indoor allergens. Oddly enough, this kid had NO reaction for dust mites, which is great, because I'm realllly allergic to them. His worst offenders were grasses, trees, pollens and molds, and here's the worst part...peanuts, tree nuts and eggs!!! His milk allergy didn't show, but that usually shows better in a blood test, which we will take him to the hospital tomorrow to have that done. There they will do soy, fish, shellfish, milk, eggs, corn, peanuts, almonds, pecans and some other stuff. I really liked the pediatric allergist that we were sent to. They treated us like we were the only patients in there. They were very thorough in explaining everything to us and let us ask a billion questions. So right now, he's on the usual Zyrtec, Nasonex, and one other thing, and then he'll start allergy shots in a few weeks. I know that sounds really drastic to start him on shots so young, but I have really benefited from it and if it lessens the chance or severity of asthma when he's older, I'm all for it. I have passed on some bad genes to this kid and if we can prevent him from going through what I went through for the first 27 years of my life, then I'm all for it!
Thanks to all of you for your prayers- I was able to maintain my composure and he was a trooper! We even had a resident coming in and observing and helping out, and while the senior dr. was talking to us, the resident took Jonathan and played with him so we could listen and focus and ask questions.
