  • Everyday Forever

There are some things about toddlerhood that I wish I could hold on to forever.

Potty Training is NOT one of them.

Neither is it when they decide to pour their own cup of orange juice.

It IS in the mornings, after Jacob and I wiggle him out of his sleeper. He reaches for me and snuggles his face into my shoulder. The light shining thru the window illuminates every beautiful bit of baby-fuzz on his back.

I love just standing there, in the morning light, holding him and rubbing his sweet little back.

I could do that everyday forever.

  • I just love this! It's posted on my fridge. What's on yours?

                     It is possible that God says every morning,"Do it again" to the sun;
and every evening,"Do it again" to the moon. It may not be automat-
ic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes
every daisy separately but has never gotten tired of making them...
The repetition in nature may not be a mere recurrence; it may be a
                     theatrical encore.

This farm family enjoyed the Cherry Blossom "encore" in D.C. a couple of weeks ago!
Jacob's favorite parts were the mulch piles under trees where he could just farm a little!

  • It's Not the Glasses

I am slowly learning about  how xanga does things. I have learned that if I upload photos in preparation for a post, it will tell people because I haven't told it not to. Even tho' the photos don't make alot of sense. Assuming, of course, that they will WITH a post!

But then, this down_onthefarm person is the same gal that just figured out yesterday why her sunglasses are always crooked.

Yes, my sunglasses have always been bent in some way so that they sit crooked on my face. Somebody messes with my glasses and they lean to the left. My left. I was admiring my snappy new pair in the mirror when I realized they were crooked too. What?!

The clouds parted and the light shone clearly on my crooked  sunglasses predicament.

    The glasses are not bent.

My one ear is higher than the other therefore making any pair of glasses sit crooked. To the left.

Clouds quickly returned  as I would have preferred continuing with the rationalization that it was the glasses and not the layout of my head!.

  • Yet Another Pet

    IMG_0465

This is Ben with his newfound pet.

Yes indeed, if you look closely at what he is holding, it IS a snake.

Now I know that I was real cool and all, about Charlotte, but this is definitely crossing a line here, folks! Somebody, anybody, offer some support to me. Please!

The boys have decided that it is not a garter snake. The garter snake variety would be considered harmless. And harmless equals boring around here. We can't have that. So. They are frantically perusing our reptile books trying to make their snake match something dangerous that Mom just might believe.

It has already escaped once in our basement.

Oh, the longevity of my longsuffering.  And under the circumstances, that sentence is not redundant !

But Grandma, if you are reading this, please know that we will have an adequate containment system in working order WAY before you come up to visit next Wednesday.

    Way before. I. Insist.

  • How did HE tell YOU today?

    Thinking.

Thinking about the many ways that God says I love you to us all. My Bible tells me so.

Thinking about the many ways that God continues to say, "I love you Cindy." Sometimes whispered, sometimes shouted, thru the everyday events of life and the careful orchestration of details that can only be explained as God arranged. You don't know about them unless I tell you.

    So I will.

Jacob made a new friend this week. Her name is Charlotte. She seems really nice and she promised never to shed on the furniture. She stays in his room and we aren't sure where she'll be when we enter. So it has become a kind of silly game that we play.
"Where is Charlotte now?", we ask, looking around.
"Is she hiding? Is she visiting family?"
Usually she is somewhere on the ceiling and Jacob laughs outloud when he finds her.
    "Funny pie-der," he says.
"What are [you] doin up there?", he wonders aloud.

And for the first time in my life, a for real spider is making me smile. All because of the privilege of seeing the world anew again, thru the eyes of an almost 3 year old little boy.

Jacob's speech teacher, Miss Lynne, came today not yet knowing about his new pet. Very seldom in her 15 months of visits has she brought books. Usually her big bag contains a cool assortment of educational toys, games and puzzles, but no books.

    Today, she brought a book.

A book about a funny spider.

    Jacob loved it.

As my little son laughed outloud at yet another funny "pie-der," I heard it.
    "I LOVE YOU."

Why in the world would the great big Creator of the Universe bother with the interests of a toddler except maybe to say I love you ?

How did HE tell you today?
