| What if you had a cancerous lump? by David Tang.If you had a cancerous lump, how would you like to be told that you will have to wait 2 years and 2 months for an operation to remove it? If it were I, I would freck out! And that's exactly what happened to my factotum, who had worked for me for nearly 30 years. He freaked out. And I don't blame him. Last month, after a diagnosis, he was given an appointment form the Queen Mary Hospital, for, wait for it, the 30th of December 2009! That's right, 2 years and 2 months away. At this rate, his operation will probably come after universal suffrage in HK! What utterly amazes me is that this sort of thing is allowed to happen in HK. Quite apart from the appalling psychological effect that this kind of long wait will have on the patient, especially one with a serious cancer history, which my man has, it seems incredible that a prosperous place like HK could go along with it. What I say, however, is that it is totally, absolutely and indubitably unacceptable that anyone in HK should be asked to wait for so long for an operation. To fix it so far ahead on wonder what the Health Secretary and his department and the Hospital Authority think? Would they regard my outcry as unfair? Would they say that because the lump in question is not malignant, its operation could therefore be put on a waiting list for over 2 years, and that it will have to be carried out a couple of days before the New Year? If they think there is nothing wrong with any of this, let them say so publicly. I am challenging them to say so. And if they do, they will have to admit that if this sort of waiting should apply to any member of their own family or to those close to them, they would themselves find it unnecessary to vent their anxiety. But of course they can't reasonably agree. Nobody would. So it's time that they tell the public and the individual patient that they must do something to rectify and on the situation system. An example like this sends such a bad signal across out healthcare system. It's a joke-and a bad joke. | | |

| Salute to a Japanese JournalistHe wa so brave and so professioanl, during shooting the demonstrations in Burma, no matter how dangerours and hor painful he was, all he was thinking was that he must take those pictures and send to all over the world let people know what is going on in there. But it is sad to see him died in front of the TV just now, especially, knowing that was shot in a short distance by the army. It is shock to see that. Any way, he is our hero and so do other great journalists who died during the job. I very much respect those who delicate to their job with 100 percents, without them we shall never know there are some terrible things happening in other side. Thank you so much to them so that we can lean so many things without travelling. Therefore, we shall never forget them. | | |
| I was deeply removed and sad to read the two news this morning and it made me want to cry too. The first one was talking about what have happened to the American' s family, who have just lost two younger sons and now only remaining the eldest son. The most sadly is their eldest son was watching the youngest son died in front of him in war. How terrible thing was that. I believe he must be very hurt and shocking to see that. I hope the family from now on living in a peaceful and happy life and may them recover soon. The second news was the woman just gave birth to a baby a few days ago and suddenly her health was going worst because a doctor found out that her lung is something wrong and need to be changed within in ten days. As the news has been published and then lots of people have been willing to help, however, they were not fit for the women. Finally, yesterday the doctor found a man ,who is a policeman, fits the requirement, but, unfortunately, her condition was in a very critical situation that not suitable for surgery. The policeman felt sad and said." life is so strange, when she was suatible for operation but could not find the right one, but now I came, sadly I can not help her now. If I had come early, she would have been save by now, but I was kept by my job. What can I say !" The reason why I was deeply impressed because he is a policeman and needs lot of physical strength for working and besides there are not in relative. Well, talking about HK policeman, I do think they are quite okey, of course, there are not too strong and big, but they are mostly polite, and efficiency . When they are on called to a crime scene or car accident site , they do arrieve in a short time. Ha Ha !!! because HK is a small place. Monotype

| . I feel sad when I have heard my favorite beautiful movie star, who has become very depressive and need to go to see a psychiatrist because she has found out her husband has someone else. Why? Why all these beautiful and nice women always have the same situation, never can't find some one to cherish and love them deeply. And very strange those pretty women all have the same character which are devotion and loyalty to their men. How I wish I could tell them that they should not put the whole world on one person and thought it is the end of the world. there are still many meaningful things to live. such as going to opera, reading a good book, listening to good music, going out gathering with good friends or to be a social worker to help other people in needed, helping the poor that really can give you happiness and gain confidence. It is because you find that you are a useful person and moreover there are more people are living in a very suffering situation compare to your problem. So, I hope them be wake up and be strong and live happily. | | |
