  • And the saga continues

Update: I'm going to a dermatologist on Thursday. And I added some pictures. If you're easily grossed out, you might not want to look.

    So I'm still sick.

    Over a month later.

I've had an allergic reaction to... something. The doctors can't quite seem to figure it out. Anyways, I have these red welt-like things covering basically both my legs completely. They itch like made, but worse, they make it painful to walk. I have one on my left ankle that has caused the ankle to swell up like a balloon.

So here's what they look like (they've actually improved since Sunday):

    P1010136

    P1010137

    P1010138

Please pray for me. These don't seem to be going away, and the pain gets to the point of being nearly unbearable. Plus, I just feel horrible. I'm achy, I've been running a fever, have the chills, etc. I know in light of Suzi (someone from my church that just passed away from scleroderma) and her life and death and health struggle this doesn't seem like much, but I would really appreciate your prayers. Thanks.

  • The missions trip that wasn't

    Well, it was.

    Just not for me.

    Allow me to explain.

RIOT had planned a missions trip for this past week to northern Indiana to work with the Latino population in the Osceola/Warsaw areas. Since I was a Spanish Ed major in college before health problems intervened (which should have been foreshadowing), I was stoked.

During training, I felt pretty crummy. I went to the dr. on Monday, and he said I had a sinus infection and put me on this new medication (at least, new to me), calling it one of the "big boys." I felt really nauseous on Tuesday and had to leave work. I woke up on Wednesday, the day the youth group was supposed to leave, and knew I wouldn't be able to go with them when they left at 6:15 am. I went over to church since I was already awake, wished them all farewell, and planned to leave later that afternoon.

As the day went on, I still felt pretty crummy (nausea), plus my hands were shaking and my heart was racing and I really wasn't able to eat anything. I called Chris and told him that I'd come up the next day. After that I remembered that Caleb was going to be driving to Wisconsin the next day, so I worked it out with him that he'd drop me off in Osceola on his way out.

Thursday dawns and I still feel lousy. Despite that, at about 4ish, Caleb and I head out to Osceola. I get there and I feel lousy. I go to bed and I feel even worse.

I wake up Friday morning. The nausea has increased. Then I actually throw up twice, something I haven't done since college. I had to call my family, and my dad came out and took me home.

So I missed the whole missions trip. From what I understand, Chris said it's the best missions trip he's been on with RIOT. So I'm really excited for them, but that makes me all the more bummed, especially since I posed the idea to Chris a couple of years ago. Is it bad that I'm bummed? I don't think so. Still, excited for them. But sad.

  • 5/5 five years later

As of today, Caleb and I have been dating for 5 years. In some ways, it seems so much longer, but in some ways, it feels like it was just yesterday that we walked around the streets of Winona on our first "date."

We've both changed so much in those 5 years, grown in so many ways, gone through so many things together. God has brought us through some tough times, many as a result of our own foolish choices, others not. Yet we've grown stronger together through it all.

I'm grateful to God for providing me such a godly example of a man after His own heart. Caleb is devoted to the Word and to prayer, as well as Christian service. He is supportive of me, but still points out the areas in which I need to grow and change. He is understanding when my ministries take away our Saturdays, which is basically our only free time any more. He loves his family and those he ministers to, and always takes time from his over-crowded schedule to be there for them just to talk or to hang out. He rarely complains, and always helps when asked... and when he's not.

Caleb, I love you. Thank you for being there for me for the past 5 years. I look forward to the future.

  • Congratulations are in order

Congrats to Justin Masterson, who will pitch in his first major league baseball game tomorrow as a starter for the Boston Red Sox against the Angels!

For those of you who don't know or don't remember me talking about him, I was good friends with Justin's sister in junior high and high school, and my brother played against him in little league. Justin's a guy who loves the Lord and desires to use the talents God gave him to serve and honor Him. Pray that he'll have opportunities to share the Gospel with his teammates while he's in the majors!

  • The voice of hope...

As high as the heavens are above the earth
So high are Your ways to mine
Ways so perfect, they never fail me
I know You are good all the time

And through the storm, yet I will praise You
Despite it all, yet I will sing
Through good or bad, yet I will worship
For You remain, the same King of kings

You are the voice of hope
    The anchor of my soul
Where there seems to be no way
    You make it possible
You are the Prince of peace
    Amidst adversity
My lips will shout for joy
    To You the Most High

You were the One before time began
    There's nothing beyond Your control
    My confidence, my assurance
    Rest in Your unchanging word

  • Up from the grave He arose!

    With a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
He arose a victor from the dark domain,
And he lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

    Death cannot keep its prey, Jesus my Savior;
He tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave He arose
    With a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
He arose a victor from the dark domain,
And he lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

About Me

  • "What you live is what you believe - the rest is just talk." I'm a grad of Beavercreek High School (class of 2001!) and Grace College (class of Dec. 2004!). I am a Christian and would love to talk to you about it if you would like. I live in the Creek now (and have all my life). I am NOT engaged to my wonderful boyfriend of 4 years (Caleb), lol, and I love my church and my family.
