| random random random...i think my blog is becoming boring due to lack of updates... i've been too busy to blog!!! working as a lifeguard in kings dominion is alright now but having to stand under the hot sun is a sure torture! my life here is like a daily routine but there's always a bit of surprise every now and then at work.
no pictures in this entry due to procrastination and i'll just write down whatever came into my mind so pardon me if this post is not making sense!
let's see.. my hair on my skin has turned completely blonde due to sun exposure and the chlorine in the water. i've yet to tried out all the rides except some and i'm looking forward to that day when everyone's off from work. i tried the longest roller coaster ride called dominator with my group of singaporean friends and it was fun. not scary for me though... then, i also tried the drop tower and it wasn't as scary as the one i've sat in genting...
ever since i got here, i've been too busy working and buying groceries during day off that i've yet to gone shopping or do sightseeing around the place. no time at all!!! i've made many friends down here all over from the world though. there's malaysians, taiwanese, turkish and of course americans so life isn't so bad.
during my off days, we will cook, go walmart to buy groceries or slack at our dorm cause we are always tired. oh, there was a grill day the other night and we got to have free food for dinner! and music was blasting out loud till 2am! we interacted with different races and the turks kept saying we look like 16/17 years old. in actual fact, we are some some of the oldest among them all and yet they are all taller and bigger size than us. the gals too, very well endowed! we look like dwarfs down here..
we are going to D.C washington next tuesday and i'm really excited. the four of us keep talking on what to wear and keep emphasizing that we have to look 'old' and pretty enough so that the turks and the americans won't say we look like little kids! i will try my best to load the photos asap..
i've just opened a facebook account(finally!!) cause my friends said it will be hard to contact each other once all of us leave this place.. so yah... i'm having difficulty to use it...
there's many stuff to tell but i'm too busy and lazy to blog them up... there's just too many things to say and i don't know how and where to start... gosh!!! till next time!

| new dorm and walmart....hello!!! greetings from me in U.S!!! how are you guys doing? fine???
well, for the past week, i've been a busy bee working and finding my way in this big state. work as usual, boring. besides scanning water, i've got to sweep the floor too. luckily for me, it ain't toilet cleaning! and sweeping the floor is an easy job. and i got to explore the park too. lolx...
i just moved into the new dorm. it's almost complete except for the outdoor area. the dorm is not what i have expected. it's smaller than VCU and 4 people have to live together in this tiny room. but at least, it's cosy and clean. but for the toilet, it is bad. real bad. first, the restroom is full of insects as this place is off the city and like a barren land. next, there's no doors in the bathroom area, just a curtain. i feel so exposed to the surrounding when showering. to make matter worse, there are guys living in the same floor as us though they live on the other end. help me please!!!
well, at least, the dorm we are living are very near the theme park. and and!!! there's free buses to take us to walmart, ashland(it's a town), shopping malls, clubs and etc! hooray for that. plus, there's employee trips for us to sign up like going to D.C washington, virginia beach and potomec(a large shopping mall). very soon, they will have trips to new york too!
well, here are some photos as we headed out to celebrate jean's 22nd birthday and to walmart. stuff is really really cheap down there and it's huge too!! we also took our first public transport in U.S. their routes are really confusing!
us and our new taiwanese friends!
we went to this chinese restaurant near our old dorm and the food is D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S!!! surprisingly, it's cheap too and comes in huge servings!!!! we went to that place twice in a day, one for lunch and one for dinner. i miss chinese food!!! one week of western food is making me ill!!!
that's one of our turkish friends and we gave him a nickname as harry potter! he really looks like one with glasses on!! we tend to joke about him as he's obsessed with xin xin!!! he likes her and keep asking us to help him. we took him to the restaurant and he didn't like all the chinese food! also, he's a weird guy. i would say a musician's temper. he's a violinist, a member in the choir and knows how to make jewelry from beads and pearls. but he's too chauvinistic, weird temper, hates chinese food and doesn't know much english or else xin would agree to go out with him. too bad... in the bus.. i've grown a notch darker but i like the tan. hope i won't get too tanned like some of the lifeguards here! at walmart... me!!! inside walmart... well, i'll update again when i have the time! photos of my new dorm up soon=) gulei gulei(turkish means bye bye!!!)
| 1st entry in USsorry for the lack of updates!!! things have been really busy ever since i got here. the moment i touched down, it was hectic, hectic and hectic!!! i don't even have the time to explore the place yet. i'm currently in richmond now, residing at VCU rhoads hall and i can't wait to get to our new dorm! the facilities down here are quite okay but the new dorm will be better as that's what they said.
well, the weather in US is kinda hot now especially in the afternoon but it's still very dry. i'm suffering from cracked lips right now and it has turned into mini ulcers!!! when it's in the morning and also at night, the weather gets chilly and even drier than the afternoon. but i still like the weather so far cause its not humid.
food wise, i'm sorry i have to say this but it totally sucks. americans don't eat rice, noodles, no spicy food, no vegetables except salad which i dislike cause of it's dressing and it's raw and no seafood... apparently, there's nothing here except meat and bread. hamburgers and pizza that's all. also, they don't drink hot water. all they have is cold water(which is hardly able to find too) and soft drinks. i miss my mom's food. i miss singapore's food. i miss everything!!!
people wise, very friendly but they are very wasteful. i'm glad our education has taught us how to conserve and save papers and water but down here, the people just waste them! misfortune befall me and i was forced to clean the restrooms for 3 days before my lifeguard training starts. and during the three days, i saw so much of the papers being wasted and water being drained away wastefully. they turned on the taps and forgot to turn them off and while dolling up or cleaning their hands with soap, they still let the water flow like anything.
nevertheless, they are very friendly and love to say hi to anyone they met on the streets. also, their lifestyle is very laid back which i like unlike singapore. and, they have many nice buildings and churches. so different from singapore. the day here is slightly longer and only gets dark after 8pm. however by 6pm plus, there are very few people on the streets, unlike orchard road.
okay, enough of all these. here are some nice pix to show case!!!
my family. i miss them... they sent me off the other day at the airport. nearly cried but held back as i didn't want my parents to be worried about me. it took us close to two days to get there. we transited over to taipei and stayed there for a while before takin a long flight to US. it was a torture to sit for so long and my knees were numb and in pain!!!
in taipei at one of the transit hotels. that's the view and our OWN queen sized bed.. one for ourself!!!
jean and i are roommates... the upper deck belongs to me!!! the church located opposite from our dorm. it's very beautiful but i haven't got a chance to go inside yet... in front of it is a park, very nice indeed... a bird nest with baby birds inside the little hole, right outside of the dorm's entrance. so cute!!! around the neighborhood... eagles flying high!!! that's my lifeguard friends. we haven't start training yet and was dismissed early for our orientation classes, thus decided to play tennis near kings dominion. they are turkish by the way and we had a hard time communicating cause they speak very little english and understand very little too. that's not all, there are only 7 asians in this batch and the rest are all turkish! luckily, the ladies are nice while the guys are rather gentlemen. our uniforms!!!! i like our lifeguard uniforms, totally love it in fact!!! but i don't like their hats!! okay, gotta go now. jean is nagging at me and asking me to hurry up or we'll be late for our lifeguard training. finally! after waiting and washing the restrooms for 3 days, i no longer need to anymore and i detest that job!!! hooray!!! adios!!! will update when i have the time.
| confusion statei'm feeling very confused right now. i'm excited cause i'll be embarking a totally whole new experience but at the same time, sad to be away from my family. 6 months is not long, nor does it consider short...
i'm also feeling guilty for having to ask my parents especially my mom to fork out most of the money... by right, i should be finding a job now and trying to lessen the financial burden but instead, i have actually added more burden on them. feel so unfilial...
i always dream of being able to take my mom out for facial and spa, buy stuff for her or at the very least, bring her out occasionally to restaurants and have some good food. i yearn to help my dad in taking over some of the monthly bills or give him allowance every month so that he could enjoy himself and be a happier person instead of being so grumpy now. i hope to give my younger sis some money too, not a lot, or sponsor some money for her to take up a degree course after her diploma. i wish i can own a car so that i could bring my family out every weekend for dinner, go for a spin and try to make this family closer. of course, i want happy to join us too.
if i choose not to go and start finding a job now, i'm pretty sure i'll be getting a step closer to my goals. but because of this trip, i'm starting out later by half a year, and that means fulfilling at a later timing...
on the other hand, i know i'll regret if i didn't go for this trip cause i'm such a frog in the well now. all along, the other country i know better in terms of culture, places and people is malaysia. i want to learn more about another country and gain some exposure to a different type of culture. also, it's either now or never. given if i have the money when i grow older, it won't be the same anymore because i will then be a working adult and not a freshly grad that is full of energy and spunk. you get what i mean? different stages of life will make a person have a different perspective although the incident or cause is the same.
i'm really confused right now....

| china and karmaBEIJING (AFP) - - Staff at a bank in China's quake zone used relief
funds to buy themselves US brand runners, the country's audit office
said Friday after probing for instances of aid money going astray. A branch of ICBC, the biggest bank in China, in quake-hit Mianyang
city bought 56 pairs of Nike runners for its workers, the audit office
said in a statement posted on its website. The branch used 28,500
yuan (4,100 dollars) to buy the shoes at the end of May, and faked the
receipts to say it had bought raincoats, rubber boots and umbrellas,
the report said. "After the audit investigation revealed this
problem, the bank returned the 'special earthquake funds' that were
inappropriately used," the report said. Another investigation by
the audit office revealed that in some areas, text messages about the
quake were sent en masse, and were suspected of cheating mobile phone
users into donating money into bank accounts, the report said. "According
to our investigation, there are some people who already put earthquake
donations into the fundraising accounts," the report said. Those accounts had been frozen, according to the audit office, which did not reveal how much money was involved. Misappropriation
of funds allocated to help in the wake of the 8.0-magnitude earthquake
-- which has killed nearly 70,000 and left another 17,500 missing -- is
of huge concern in a country where graft is endemic. Corruption
is rampant both in government ranks and throughout society, as the
country ploughs through its development boom without a free press or an
independent judiciary. President Hu Jintao has repeatedly warned
that corruption is one of the biggest threats to the legitimacy of the
ruling Communist Party. More than six billion dollars in aid from
home and abroad has been donated for quake relief and the government
has insisted it is doing all it can to ensure the money is spent in the
correct manner. i was surfing the net when i saw this piece of news.like what i said earlier in my post, corruption is prevalent in china. funds that were meant to save the people after the earthquake are being misappropriated. greed! that blinds all people...god knows how much of it has actually gone into the pockets of those greedy and selfish people? apparently, they are not being sympathetic nor concern about it... that's the reason i don't trust organizations, those supposedly called charity organizations. i still believe there are good ones out there but how many can truly earn the trust, no one has any idea. all thanks to those black sheep. and for one thing i know, though they may claim that their organizations are non profit, but in the modern and complex world, there's no such thing anymore. every organization needs to be run like a profit organization, whether you are in the private or public sector, profit or non profit...it's the way to survive in this world...back to the topic. did you guys know of what sharon stone said on the red carpet regarding this issue? if you don't, here's what she said,
" Well you know it's very interesting because at first I'm y'know, not
happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I
don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And so I have been
very concerned about how to think and what to do about that, because I
don't like... that. And then I've been concerned about how we should
deal with the Olympics because they're not being nice to the Dalai Lama
who's a good friend of mine. And then all this earthquake and all this
happened and I thought 'Is that karma? When you're not nice that the
bad things happen to you?' And then I got a letter from the Tibetan
Foundation that they wanted to be helpful. And that made me cry."what she said was very blunt, insensitive, rude and stupid but come to think of it, i do admit that, at the back of my mind, i do think somewhere along the line too... but it doesn't mean i'm mocking myself for being stupid cause in the first place, if i were her, i wouldn't have blurt it out in such a prestigious occasion and also, blurting it out without going through my brain. WT???and i can bet on my last dollar that there are chinese people out there thinking the same way as what sharon stone here said. of course, not to say that the people who have suffered from the earthquake deserved it(hell no, and never will be), but normally, retribution or karma always befall on the wrong people. just like how ethiopia is the place where god has forsaken. to me, it's karma that befalls to the wrong people which is by right, should befall to countries that did many damages to the earth.things are just simply unpredictable...
