SPRING

Featured Grownups poses this question:

Mother Nature is having a really hard time giving us the Spring season we are all so eager for ... what exactly is it we are eager for? Tell us what SPRING means to you... what is it you are waiting for, longing for, looking forward to?

Spring is and always has been my favorite time of the year.  It's great to see the world spring back to life again after the bleak, dreary days of winter.  Bright green leaves on the trees, colorful flowers, colorful birds, pleasant temperatures--not too hot or too cold.

Pretty girls look just a little prettier.

Soon I can start tilling the ground for planting vegetables that will be fresh on the table.

On the downside, pollen is in the air to aggravate the old allergies, and the pine pollen coats your car.  and soon the lawn will need mowing.  But the ups far outweigh the downs.

Not looking forward to the pollens myself. Had heard from someone, that eating honey produced in your local area helps. Have you ever tried this?

My husband and I were outside yesterday when a bird landed on a tree branch above us.  Pollen just EXPLODED off of the tree.  In fact, just thinking about that, I want to go take an allergy pill right now!

RYC:  Oh, don't get me started on the squirrels!  That is never-ending struggle.  My daughter almost bought me a marshmallow gun for my birthday last year!  (Yes, there really is such a thing!)  I find flinging ice cubes to be more environmentally sensitive.

At least I won't be cutting grass this year. I am divorcing and have moved out of the house!

Of course the girls look prettier when they shed the winter coats and you can see them better.

@sarahsD - Thanks.  I love honey on my waffles & pancakes, so maybe I'll try local stuff.  In the meantime, Allegra works pretty good.

@suzyQ_darnit - Do you have that icky yellow-green pine pollen?  Every year when the trees start bearing fruit I resort to making squirrel baffles on the trunks.  They're tricky to make, but they work.

@SuSu - Yes, the girls look prettier when they shed their winter clothes, but spring does stir up the old hormones, too.

No problems with pine pollen here....but mowing the lawn I think is needed everywhere.

That pollen thing can be a real pain.  Otherwise it is a fun time of year.

As PFAD said, no problem w/ the pine pollen here. . .I live in a desert rather than in a mountianus area and I don't have allergies (except for a few in the winter...go figure!).  Spring is such a reaffermation of life isn't it?  And I would agree with you. . .the pros definately outweigh the cons!~Jeri

Dear Sully,

I may have visited before on blogring challenges. If not, I'm here from the Featured Grownups ring, where I wrote about this subject.

We usually have "perpetual spring" in SoCal but the past few years there have been more upswinging and downswinging of the weather than usual.

@baldmike2004 -

I've never been in Southern Cal. I spent several years in the Monterey Bay area and loved it. Cool year round; never hot.

I have allergies as well but as you say, the ups outweigh the downs. I wouldn't give up this gorgeous weather for anything.

I really hate spring. It's a miserable time of year for me. Shots and pills and sprays and eye drops and still the sneezing. Blech. Plants just need to figure out how to have sex and stop all this pollen nonsense.

I love garden-tilling time.  I like to walk in the dark dirt and get my feet all dirty.
