  • Crocs and other stuff

I've known about Crocs since my health professor in college told me about them.  That was back when they were REALLY new and no one really knew about them.  My prof was so excited about them because, although they were originally designed for people who spent a lot of time around water (boaters and fisherpeople), they were starting to promote them for people in the health industry because of their unique make-up and the fact that they were comfy enough to stand in for hours on end.  At the time, I thought they were a great idea, but I didn't really have the money to spend on another pair of shoes.

Well, I don't necessarily have the money now either, but it seems like I do.  So, I invested in a pair of Crocs for the following reasons:

-Crocs are anti-microbial (meaning they won't let athlete's foot spread or grow on them).  I have athlete's foot.
-Crocs are anti-odor.  My feet sweat a lot.
-They're extremely comfy, even when standing for long periods.  I spend a lot of time on my feet.
-They're extremely light, so not only are they comfy, but they'll be great for backpacking trips too.
-They can be taken off and put back on quickly and easily, thus great for airports.  I love flying, and will be going on a trip in a week.
-They're easy to take off, but not easy to fall off.  Good for me-- "Miss Clumsy".  If I can walk out of a shoe, I'm in trouble.  I can't do that with Crocs unless I choose to.
-They're very sturdy and long-lasting.  I see them as a good investment and plan to keep the same pair for several years.
-They're great for the environment because they can be recycled, or collected for re-use in poor countries.
    -And, they just look fun!

In other news, work has been...interesting.  Have you ever noticed that where there are no guys, there tends to be a lot of nit-picking and drama?  Well, my workplace is an example of that.  Two of the tellers (the ones I got hired with) are transferring to the main branch, probably in early August, so my boss hired two more tellers to replace them.  Guess what!  They're guys!  So, when I get back from my vacation, I'll get to help train two new tellers.  I sure hope the higher testosterone level will mellow things out a bit.  It seems I keep getting stuck in the middle.  Bleh.

Also, it looks like I've managed to keep up my stats enough that I might be getting a raise in the next couple months.  Very exciting, since it will help when Steve goes to school in the fall.  He just has to sign up for classes...

I think that's it for now...

  • Mr. Wench

Steve and I rarely have time together during weekdays.  Thus, it's usually Steve that ends up doing the laundry because he'd rather do it alone than wait for me to be around and end up having to do it when the laundromat is really busy.  In turn, he has taken to calling himself "the laundry wench".  I haven't decided yet if it really bothers him that he gets stuck doing the laundry (I'm leaning towards "no"), but even if he really doesn't mind it, he's still going to milk it for all it's worth.

Last night, he invited his brother over for dinner.  And, glorious, wonderful man, I came home to a clean living room and a husband just finishing up the dishes.  Now, if only I can get the bathroom cleaned this weekend, and paperwork sorted, we'll have a clean house!  But, of course, now Steve is also the "dishes wench", and the "cleaning wench".

We've also figured out that, not only does Steve earn a lot more money by working overtime, but he also eats a lot less at home, so we end up spending a darn lot less on food.  We stocked up on ground beef and chicken at the beginning of this month, and we've only used one meal's worth of each so far.  And the month is almost over.  The stuff may just last us into August, in fact, since we'll be gone for a week next month too.

I think we've both got on our minds the idea of getting an A/C unit at some point.  It's been kind of stiflingly hot the past few days, and we're finding ourselves spread across the bed, well away from each other to cool down enough to sleep at night.  it's comfortable now, in the morning, but it takes nearly all night for the house to cool down.  I'd rather NOT have to buy an A/C unit because it will make our electric bill spike, but I have a feeling Steve will become sleep deprived if he's going to have to sleep during the hot days.

  • Birthday

So, guess what my birthday present to Steve was...

A discussion about finances.  Fun, fun.  I don't now why I decided to bring it up today, but when I was halfway through it with him, I thought, "What a great birthday present (dripping with sarcasm)".  Steve hates money and talk about money.  It was probably the last thing he wanted to do any day, and especially on his birthday.  But you know what?  He proved to me, yet again, why I married him.  Even though he got frustrated and went into a funk for awhile, by the time he'd left for work, he'd done his best to compromise and he was in a better mood.  It probably didn't help much that I talked to him about it on the day before his last night of work after working 2.5 weeks with only two nights off.  Go figure.  I just have the best timing, now don't I?

Well, I'm off to find something to munch on while I watch a little more of LOTR.  I find that when I read it, I get an itch to watch it too so I can compare again.  Ha.
