| H2O-for those of you without facebook, this is what I was thinking last nightTo preface this whole idea, I've been reading the book, Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Dr. Paul Brand and Phillip Yancey. It is all about how Paul's metaphor of the Body of Christ really works when you look at all the cells and functions of the body (every follower of Christ should read this because it helps you understand your purpose as a member of Christ's body). This is why I was thinking about the body in my story; it's coming, I promise). As probably everybody knows, water is hugely important in the human body. It is necessaray for life. 65% of the human body is made up of water. It is what makes us soft and it makes everything work (it's involved a lot in the body, I won't get into all the ways it's used, but yeah, the point is that it is super important). Okay, so at the Crossing tonight, I pretty much got out of it that the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the Body of Christ just like water is absolutely essential to the human body. During the first portion of worship, Jon had us come to the front where they had set up buckets of water and candles on a table. As an act of worship, we were to feel the water and the fire (not burn ourselves) to discover more about the Holy Spirit. In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is described as water for our souls and an all consuming fire (Revalation 22:16-18, Matthew 3:11). When I put my hands in the water, I was reminded of washing my hands. Water cleanses the outside of our body and refreshes the skin when it is submerged. Then, as I pulled my hands out, I was reminded of what my mom told me about drying my hands. You have to dry your hands fully or they become chapped (especially in teh winter. I don't understand why, but that doesn't change the fact that it happens). Just cleansing the outside of the body just makes our skin more dehydrated. If the Holy Spirit is like water for the human body, then when the Body of Christ just cleans up on the outside, it just makes us worse off than when we started. No matter how much we try to "cover ourselves in the Holy Spirit", we end up looking more like those without the Holy Spirit (dehydrated and generally not feeling very well). In order for water to work, it needs to be inside us. We need to drink it. We need to ingest it and take it into ourselves, and get it to all the parts of the body. The same is true with the Holy Spirit. We need to drink in the Holy Spirit, we need to get the Holy Spirit inside of us so that we can survive and thrive. It cleans us, refreshes us, and revives us from the inside out. If the inside is healthy, the outside looks good.
There is more to what the body is made up of, so I will continue this later......
| woah!Bad days. They happen. What makes a bad day? Is it truly what happens or is it our attitude towards what happens. Can you truly have a good attitude about some things. Like death. Can you have a good day when death is present in your life? Whether it be impending or already done. | | |
| snowIt's snowing!!! I'm super excited. I really am not feeling any motivation to do homework. It's kinda bad. I don't have that much, but I haven't done a single bit of it today. I'm really glad though because this semester looks like it is going to be 10 times less stressful than last semester. Yay!!!! Anatomy will be difficult, but I took Anatomy and Physiology in high school, so it's all pretty much in my brain, I just have to make sure it comes out pretty quick. French has been kinda hard to get back into, but I'm slowly regaining my ability to speak and write. Very slowly. For Chem, I am not in an honors class (aaaaaahhhhhhh!!! I'm so excited, I can hardly contain myself), which means that I can do all the problems without much of an issue and I understand what's going on in class (bonus!!). Psyc should be okay as long as I keep up and actyually work at it.
So tonight, all of us that usually hang out together are going sledding tonight at midnight. It should be a blast!!! Hope everyone has a good day and most of you tomorrow!
| Chinaso, I'm totally not ready to leave in two days. I'm feeling super unprepared. Yikes. At least I have almost two full days to pack. It's still stressful. Please be praying for travelling mercies and that this would be a life changing experience. I'll miss you all. | | |
| Merry Christmas everybody!!! Have a very relaxing and wonderful time!! | | |
