deafhood, not deafness

These are only a few of the slides of David Eberwein's awesome presentation on Deafhood. I really enjoyed myself, as did everyone else. I will ask David to email me his powerpoint, and if he is okay with that, I will blog all the slides and my notes about what he said that weren't on the slides.

Again, it was really good!! More tomorrow.

happy birthday

After the presentation, there were three cakes (two are pictured) for the May birthdays. It was really nice!! Us with May birthdays definitely are lucky, having everybody here to celebrate with us.

my tent has no electricity

Will buy a long extension cord tomorrow so my laptop can remain alive so I can keep on blogging. ***update: nick just brought one in.. gotta love him***

Ridorlive- Ridor-R--If you are reading this---

What do you have to say about David E's presentation on Deafhood?

I recall going through your archives, you were badmouthing David E for his past doings.

Has that been  forgotten or forgiven for the sake of  "Unity"??

Elisa- Do check out Ridorlive and check out your facts. Humans have a strange way of switching sides, only to obtain the goal of acquiring what we all dream of...... our names imprinted in the history books.....

Again, the respect is still there.....

personal problems between individuals can be put aside to work together for a common purpose.  We are all part of Deafhood and we are here together for something that is bigger than ourselves, and that is all that matters.

The slides were fine except for one, which talks about the rise of oralism. While I am an advocate of using ALL resources, not just one, I do understand how the rise of oralism did lead to a decline in some things.

However.....I have to scoff a bit at that particular slide with this one line in it that states that Deaf people had high level occupations.....With the exception of a very few folks who I can count on one hand, that is simply not true. Not unless he's talking about folks who became deaf later on in life. Just my take on that.
