A Valentine's Day gift from over 1600 guys to their sisters in Christ

Alex and Brett Harris, Joshua Harris's younger twin brothers, and a team of people from their website have spent a while putting together a modesty survey for guys and compiling the results. It started as a girl of their forum suggesting that other girls send her questions, and she'd ask the guys. Soon she had tons of questions, and a vision developed to guys all over the world and see what THEY had to say. The results--after polling over 1600 guys--have been made public today, timed so that they could be a Valentine's Day gift from these guys to their sisters in Christ who are striving to help their brother's thoughts remain pure. Here is the informational piece that the Modesty Survey team put together:

TheRebelution.com just launched the results of their massive Modesty Survey! Over 1,600 Christian guys answered questions on everything from glitter lotion and lip gloss to swimsuits and skirt slits! For you girls, it's everything you've ever wanted to ask guys about modesty, but were afraid to ask! For you guys, it's really interesting to see what other Christian guys think!

Most importantly, the survey is presented as a resource to help Christian girls (and guys), not a list of legalistic rules, and it is accompanied by the Modesty Survey Petition (which tons of guys have signed) which encourage young women to focus on the heart, not the hemline, to honor their parents, etc.

TheRebelution.com presents the results of the survey as a big St. Valentine's Day gift from 1,600 Christian guys to all Christian girls—and I can't think of a better one!

A long (no pun intended) due entry

I ought to post on my blog once in a while (it’s been a loooooong while since I’ve had a real post), so I’ll post today. I’m not good at updating people one what’s taken place since a previous post, so I’ll just post as if I’d posted just shortly ago, covering just the past couple days or so.

So let’s see…yesterday my big sister, brother, and I went down to the Open Space to watch The Wizard of Oz…which meant that I didn’t get home until after 1 am. I’m not typically that much of a late nighter, so it was unusual for me…

It was a fun experience down there. The first, oh, 15 minutes or so I just stood and watched the crowds while I waited for my sister to get done talking with a friend so that we could move to where we were going to be, and for Vernon to come back from his phone call. Then, since there wasn’t anyone there I knew, I worked on a letter for about an hour between times of glancing up to watch the crowds.

After that, I went and played Ultimate Frizbee…well, at least I was taught the game, and made the third player that my team needed. I am not good at throwing a frizbee, and tried to stay in such a place as would make it not-good for my teammates to throw the frizbee to me, because otherwise they would so as to not leave me out of the game, and then if I caught it (their throws were perfect—my catching much different) I’d typically not be able to return it. However, when we got down to the inzone and the other team was blocking Vernon and Simeon, I would stand near, so that if their only ability to throw was to me, then they could, and as long as they got pretty close, I could throw it back to them. I did block Lydia a couple times, too. But despite only having 2/3 of the players that they should have had, and the end of the ½ hour that we had to play before the movie, my team was only 1 point down—5 to 6.

So then we watched the movie, drove home, and fell into bed.

Today, when I got on my e-mail (which I typically check within a ½ hour of getting up), there were four e-mails in my inbox—and I was so excited! Then, I opened it up, and two of them were spam, one was an ad…and only one was a real e-mail. And that was a reply to a request for some info, and the answer was that the info was currently unavailable. (LW’s computer had crashed, so he didn’t have the music, because it was on his computer…) Anyway, I was glad that LW’s e-mail was there, because otherwise I’d have had 3 ads and nothing real. L

After e-mail, I had breakfast, then worked on yard stuff, came in and showered, ate lunch, tried to work on dishes (my bro, who had to start washing so that I could dry, kept getting distracted…), finally decided that I was done waiting around and would come back when he was done, and came to work on this blog post.

So, there’s most of my last 24 hours. Unfortunately, the only two people that I know check my blog regularly are out of town, so they’ll not even see my update. L So if you read this, please comment so that I can know who has read it! (That is, if you’re a Xanga member, ‘cause I know some people that read it even though they aren’t members, and unfortunately they can’t comment. L )

Since I haven't posted in ages, I’m going to tell a story that happened about a month ago. I created a website based on a joke between Vernie and A. Anyway, I didn't want to put my real e-mail on this website, but I wanted to put something. Since I didn't want to use a real e-mail that might go to someone else, I put one at paamail.com, which is an e-mail rejection service. Well, A. was looking at the site, and thought it would be fun to send an e-mail there...and this is what she got back:

Ha ha, just kidding. Actually, this is a rejection letter. The person
who gave you this email address does not want to have anything to do
with you.

This is probably bad news, and many people cope with bad news in
phases: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Let us help
you through these:

"It must be a mistake": Nope. You got an address in the form
anyname@papernapkin.net or anyname@paamail.com, right? Well, all we
here at papernapkin.net do is send rejection notices. If you got this
email address, it wasn't an accident. No, you've definitely been rejected.

"Why is this happening to me?": Well, there are two main points. First,
the person you wrote to obviously had this email address ready to give
you, so they probably get hit on a lot. Second, for whatever reason,
that person would rather let you get this rejection letter than reject
you in person. So who should you be mad at: all the other creeps who have
hit on this person before you, ruining your chances; or you yourself
for being too intense or scary to be let down gently? Either way, you
really shouldn't be "angry" at anyone - what good does that do?

"I promise I'll do better next time": Fine, great, but just not with
this same person, okay? The message being sent here is pretty clear.
Besides, it may not even be your "fault" - as we pointed out above, this
person was hit on enough to memorize anyname@papernapkin.net long before
you came along. Maybe you're just out of your league here. Maybe this
person has built up some walls that are just too thick to breach. Either
way, don't try again. If you do, you're just going to seem like a
stalker... or worse! Go ahead and clean up your act if you think you should
- just be sure to find a different audience to try it out on.

"I don't care anymore": Aw, we can't leave it like that! Buck up,
little nipper! It isn't all bad! At least you were rejected in the privacy
of your own email account; you had no chance to do or say anything that
you would later regret; and you've saved the time and effort of
pursuing a no-chance relationship.

Besides, you didn't just get rejected - you've learned about a great
new tool: papernapkin.net. After all, this is nothing personal to us. We
have no beef with you, and we'd be just as pleased to serve your
rejection needs as we are to serve anybody else. So if you ever need to
reject somebody, be sure to tell them to write to you at

After she got this e-mail back, and had figured out why, she sent a copy of the e-mail she'd tried
to send to Vernie at their singing practice, and told him how she had tried to send it...you can
imagine how embarassed I was! I've since created a real e-mail address for it, just so that I could
have something up there.

P. S. If that last paragraph looks weird...I had to format it in a weird way.

Hmm...I should post more often, shouldn't I? Well, my lack of posting pretty well indicates my current state: busy. My college algebra and trig class has gotten into the trig, and I've been having some trouble with it. However, next Thursday (as in 8 days) is the last class that we'll be learning new material at. After that, it will just be review and the final. I got a 99% on the final last year, so I'm just hoping to be close to it again. The past couple weeks have constituted my worst scores of the year, though, so I'm slightly worried...

I can't think what else to say. Most of what makes me busy is just little things that it would be impossible to list.
