Baby's name: Elianah Leona DOB: 11/3/07 Original Due date: 10.30.07 (LMP) Height/weight: 20in / 7lbs.7ozs Gender: Female Story: Friday - Nov. 2:
Ate dinner at Boston Market with Tim @ 4pm knowing I wasn't going to
be able to eat again till baby was here (glad my doctor warned me about
that!). Arrived at the hospital, got checked in and they started the
cervidil at 6:30pm -- While the nurses were hooking me up and getting
everything ready, they were putting in the line for the IV (for the
pitocin & Saline drip - which I found out after makes you bloat!) I
passed out (not sure why, but think because I was lying on my back...)
scared both nurses, Tim and the doctor. They had to get a smelling
thing and give me oxygen and I came around and everything went well
after that but they didn't let me forget about passing out on them!
Because I use a practice I had a different doctor on Sat/Sun than Fri
so the Dr who delivered Elle came in Sat morning and made a deal with
me... I was not allowed to fait on her! LOL! :) Slept
horribly over the night from some minor contractions due to the
cervidil, peeing from the saline drip and the nurses checking on me,
the baby and who knows what else! Nov. 3, 2007 The nurse
removed the cervidil thing around 6:30am, let me shower and get ready
for the day. She also let me have breakfast - Jello, juice and water,
mmm yummy! LOL Doctor came in around 9am and I was at 2cm, 75%
and then she started the Pictocin & had the nurse steadily increase
the dose every 20 mins or so and was making it through the day around
2pm I still hadn't made any progress and the contractions were either
coupling or tripling and it wasn't doing any good, I was sore from not
being able to move around and being hooked up to the monitors.
The nurse strongly lectured me about relaxing and getting drugs (I
loved my nurse she always apologized every time she had to up the pit).
Part of the reason was it had been 6 hours I was making no progress and
my contractions were coupling and tripling, I was not in a good labor
pattern, was sore and there was no way I'd be able to push if I ever
did get into a good labor pattern. And so around 3pm I got an Epidural
and about 15mins later my water broke (I thought I had pulled the
catheter out that she had just inserted - the nurse thought that was
funny) from that point on things went pretty quickly, my body settled
into a good labor pattern and around 7:45pm (just over 4 hours - and a
nap!) I was at 10cm, was slightly feeling the contrax and ready to
push! The nurse had me do a couple of practice pushes and then left me
for a couple of minutes at that time I had to throw up! so Tim found
something for me and I threw up all that lovely jello, juice and ice
chips they allowed me to have that day. It was good for me because
through that I was able to figure out where my muscles were that I
needed to be able to push this girl out. I pushed for about
1/2 an hour (approx. 10 contrax - 3 which I wasn't allowed to push
during) Every time I pushed the baby's heart rate would go down and the
dr. was worried that something was wrong so she was going to let me
push through the next 2 and use the vac to help me, but had one of the
nurses go get the er ready - yikes! in the end she made her way out at
8:31pm and I had a 2nd degree tear (and lots of stitches!) but no
c-section! We are so glad that she's here and that her head is totally
fine even with having the vac. on it to get her out :) All in all I was in Labor for 11.5 hours not too bad :) |
