| I'm procrastinating. I know I am!
Today: calculus bc: I got 2 quiz grades back. 115 and 75. Minus twenty on the latter quiz because I forgot to draw a sketch of a problem. hahaha! so I was proud of those grades. and we learned how to find arc length. It was pretty boring, to be honest. physics 2: we worked problems. and problems. and more problems. and then I got bored again. government: did my calculus homework...some of it english 4: hmmm grrr we are reading prose by some early laureates such as sir francis bacon, sir thomas more, john milton, etc. most of the stories aren't THAT bad, but really, I'm very tired of it. I'm supposed to read two more stories tonight and do some writing on them but I'm writing this instead :) chemistry 2: we were supposed to review for the final exam but.. you know how that goes. band: I had to leave before this class for a doctor's appointment. basically, someone should let me know what we did!
sooo after all of that jazz, I went to tim's after school, and we worked on his creative project for english. I think it turned out really, really cool! then I had a physics lab... :( we worked at least 6 or 7 (8?) free response questions from past AP tests. it took hours. I was tired.
so then I left and went to shannon's to do homework! that brightened my day. I finished my calculus and started a take home quiz. then I went home and finished said quiz and checked the answers. quite simply, calculus bc owns my life. I haven't done my english yet. GRRRR! Senior year was never supposed to be this stressful.
Also, I want to know where I'm going to college.
Only 150 days until graduation!! :)

| Happy 2008! :) It's time for me to recap 2007.
I started this xanga in 2004. Thus, this journal has been with me throughout the entire course of high school. Somehow, I hope I always have this text.
Here are quotes from the past year (2007) to sum up my existence.
January "I went to area auditions over the weekend. I didn't make state, but I'm actually okay with it. I know it's an amazing experience..." "After school I talked to chavis for a really long time about marching next year, leadership, this GT mentorship program, colleges, the future, etc. it's scary. the future is coming and we're nearly adults. I don't really know when we'll start acting like it." "I'm judging the lake olympia middle school science fair next tuesday : )" "I am challenging for first chair.. ahh :/ " "JESSICA'S COURSE SELECTION FOR SENIOR YEAR: Calculus BC AP, US Government AP (1st Semester) & Economics AP (2nd Semester), Physics 2 AP, Chemistry 2 AP, English 4 AP, Band, 7th period off period. I could take statistics instead of an off period, but I deserve a break. For the past 3 years, I haven't taken a single study hall, and after this next year I will have taken every honors level science class in the school. I deserve an off period!" "Tomorrow the AP biology students are going to see open heart surgery! I'm so excited. I'm betting it's going to be something I will never forget." "Everything is going really well. life is amazing :)"
February "I'm really excited about applying for college. I've made my final decision this weekend that I'm applying early decision to columbia university this fall. I want to major in neuroscience and apply to medical school after that, no matter where I go. I will also apply to Duke and UPenn, I believe. If all else fails, I'll end up at UT, which I would still really like. I can't believe I'm going to be a senior soon ... ! I'm taking the SAT in a few weeks and some SAT II subject tests (probably US history and biology) near the end of this semester, as well. I really cannot believe that this is coming up so soon." "Me and katie finally talked about chairs and challenges and stuff and just decided to split all 1st parts half and half, so we don't have to keep challenging each other and having that annoying thing on our shoulders. she gets the solo she wants and I get the one I want :) I'm so happy that that is finally resolved." "I qualified for the AREA programming contest on march 2nd (like AREA band!). if I do well I get to go to STATE programming! yay :D I have code wars (LoL) march 3rd, and then possibly a UT contest march 9th (the LAST day of the 9 weeks!!). I want to go to the hightower contest, but I have to take the SAT that day (march 10th :/ ). Programming java is pretty much sweet." "Today is valentine's day, and I got home to see a HUGE package waiting for me from my lover! It was filled with magical mysteries, including a teddy bear that is HUMONGOUS that I have decided to name Passionfruit. haha. :) I also got tons of chocolate today. thanks for everyone who was so sweet to me today :)"
March "Wednesday I am absent because I get sworn in as an american citizen :)" "I am really happy. even if I am immoral." "This past spring break was really, really, and, yes, REALLY great. I got a dozen roses "just because." :) Amongst other things I went to Emily's 17th birthday, which was pretty much awesome. I also worked on my comp sci project with Shannon at Panera Bread. :) I went to the Rodeo for a Rascal Flatts concert that got cancelled because the singer had bronchitis! I was sad. :( The deep fried oreos (however artery-clogging they may be) were good. And, of course, I did other general teenage things like go to the movies, to the mall, out to eat, to the park, and just drive around singing old 90s music at the top of my lungs with the sunroof open, hoping nobody is outside to hear me." "Junior year is 3/4ths over. We're almost seniors, guys! If we can just get through this final stretch.. I know these next 9 weeks are actually going to be pretty harrowing (APs, final grades, exemptions, ACT/SATs, contests/competitions, class ranks, community service hours, GPAs, band auditions, COLLEGE VISITS/APPLICATIONS, etc). I actually had a defining moment a few days ago when I got an email from Washington University (not that I am applying there) saying the application for the undergraduate class of 2012 (high school class of 2008, in case you are ridiculously lost) is already online. Yeah.. it's time. I can't believe it, either." "I've definitely narrowed down my major to Neuroscience (or "Neuroscience & Behavior" or "Cognitive Neuroscience"- all the same, really). My minor will be music." "I have no idea if you really read all of that, but I had to get it out. There's a lot bubbling inside me- mostly about the future- and I wish I could just fast forward already. I'm really stressed out right now, and pretty much all my free time is spent trying to gather pennies for my out-of-state tuition or study for some ridiculous standardized test. I'm sorry if I'm crazy or just plain rude in these coming weeks, and I know I will be. I'm going to try to stay as calm and patient as I can, but if you know me at all you should know that I am, well, insane. I will be sleep-deprived and mostly babbling on incoherently, but just try and stick with it." "March 10 SAT scores come out tomorrow morning at 7 am on collegeboard.com :/"
April "April is here, which is almost a little unfortunate because it's time to "kick it into high gear" to just throttle forward to the end of the year. the good news (quite obviously) is that it's almost may." "I got my SAT scores, and I was happy because I hit my goal (which is very decent and well within the ranges of the colleges I aspire to apply to). However, I signed up to take the test again June 2nd because I am pretty sure I can get even higher with just a bit more practice." "This past weekend I competed at the academic UIL tournament at Kempner high school, and my team and I managed to place first in social studies." "I think I have finally decided on where I am applying to college. Yes, I know I always say that. But for some reason, I know it can't change anymore. I have pretty much nixed the early decision idea, just because I can't be quite sure where I want to end up..." "My sanity is barely hanging by a thread at the moment, so good luck dealing with me :0" "Type I diabetes was cured on april 11th due to Stem Cell Research... support it" "Then we had UIL, and I'm disappointed with our scores but at the same time I honestly don't care- I, personally, played really well and this setback as a BAND cannot stunt my growth as a horn player. yeah, that does sound kind of lame and cheesy, but it's the truth- I did think we deserved ones, but what can you do? it doesn't matter, because I'm still going to play the best I can (and did)." "Vote for me for Parliamentarian of English Honor Society !! :)" "I got my ACT score back this morning and I ended up getting a 34 (33 english, 35 math, 35 reading, 32 science) out of 36. I'm really happy with that score, so I'm feeling a little less stressed out... "
May "The San Francisco/California trip was REALLY great, I can't wait to go back there again sometime :)" "I think I can do it. Most of my final grades are set, and they're all As, so I am feeling pretty confident that I can handle it all." "Prom was last night/this morning, and it was really great :)" "Today I applied at a LOT of places for a summer job: Panera Bread, Ninfa's, Quizno's, Smoothie King, La Escondida, Marble Slab, Blockbuster, Subway, Taco Cabana.. I think that's it ? I hope I get accepted SOMEWHERE ??" "I'm almost a SENIOR in HIGH SCHOOL!! Class of `08 :)" "I'm exempt from all of my exams!" "I got a job at smoothie king last saturday. it's stressing me out, though, because I'm competing for a full-on job with all the other trainees (of which I am one)." "Me and marilou got voted band Historians! we get to do the end-of-the-year slideshow and everything, so I am pretty pumped! :) me and sam were named french horn section leaders, and geoff & eric are squad leaders. I wouldn't have it any other way- we're gonna be some awesome seniors and leaders !!"
June "So I ended up having a really good end of school. I did beautifully on my SAT IIs, and got As in all of my classes." "Then, on the 29th, 30th, and 31st, were the first few days of marching band 2007!" "The new band director, Mr. Farmer, is pretty awesome. The only thing I don't like is how unbelievably long his warm ups are. 2 1/2 hours is a bit much. I have a feeling that will change (HOPEFULLY) when real marching band starts up in August. We'll see. But he plays french horn, which is pretty cool in itself." "I think my senior year will be one to remember..." "Anyway, I stopped working at Smoothie King and decided to become a hostess at Ninfa's instead. I like it a lot better, because the owner actually speaks English and isn't ridiculous." "On Tuesday (June 12) Shannon and I drove up to Harwin to see all the cheap AzN places and cute knock off purses/wallets/everything you can think of stuff." "Yesterday (Thursday, June 14), I had an eye appointment to get a new prescription and new glasses. " "And then I went to Cingular to talk to them about the new phone I am getting come June 29.. the iPhone!" "Cara brought me a cute little gnome from Croatia. It has an engraving from whoever made it and apparently it was handmade in 1984." "I also have become really into the show 24 this summer. It's amazingly engrossing and, well, insane." "I got my SAT scores back from the June 2 test and I went up over a 100 points overall, and did better in every single section. My score is pretty impressive now, honestly, so I'm pretty pumped. " "Life is exciting :)" "On Saturday, June 30th I left for the Northeast. It was SO much fun! "
July "That was where I toured Yale. This was probably one of my favourite places/universities. It was really a small college-town atmosphere; it was safe, clean, and the buildings were all undeniably beautiful." "We went to Providence to see Brown. Here I stayed the night in an actual dorm!" "We ended up in Cambridge where I saw Harvard and MIT. I didn't like it as much as the previous, mostly because it was VERY touristy." "On Wednesday, July 4th (!) we drove to Philadelphia to see UPenn. We ate lunch at a Chili's and walked around. The music building was ugly, and that made me sad. It was all old and dirty and unkempt, whereas every other building was amazing. " "On Thursday, my dad had to go to work but my mom, sister, and I rode the subway to see Columbia. It was beautiful!" "We went to a super fancy restaurant in Manhattan called Del frisco's. The bill ended up being like $300, and for a small-town girl like me I was pretty much in awe. However, it was really good." "On Saturday, July 14th I went to Las Vegas with my mom and sister. My mom was having a business trip, so she brought us along. We did a lot, like see Cirque du Soleil's Ká. It was my fourth show; I've seen Alegría, Varekai, and Corteo in the past in Houston. If you've never seen Cirque du Soleil before, you are seriously missing out. It's one of my favourite things in the entire world." "I had to work all day but I went to her party/gathering that night for a little bit; long enough to give her her gift and eat some cake, anyway. I was super tired. Happy birthday, alexa." "We got Harry Potter 7 that night as well from Borders. However, it had already leaked onto the internet on the message board I go onto so I had been reading it before it even came out, anyway. Ooops! It was worth it, though, because I finished before everyone else! haha. Anyway, the book was pretty amazing. I have only a few qualms about it, but I always do haha. I'm sad the series is over. At least we have the movies to look forward to!" "I got my AP scores back, and I was pleased. "
August "Basically, marching band started. My freshmen are amazing, and I love having my little sister there :) My BAND little sister (not real one!) is the amazing ashley day!" " I flew into LAX on Friday, August 10th. It was just my dad and I. We got a rental car (a Shelby GT, which apparently is a racing car or something), and drove to our hotel in Marina del Rey, California. We drove up and down the coast along the Pacific Coast Highway and ended up seeing many places such as Malibu, Venice Beach, Hollister, Ventura Beach, and Santa Monica. It was all pretty amazing. " "The next day was the DCI world championships in Pasadenca, California at the Rose Bowl Stadium. It was well worth the money. The Blue Devils won; the Cadets were second, and the Cavaliers, third. It was pretty exciting, and I'm definitely going again next year to Indianapolis, Indiana for 2008 Championships." "When I got back, I had more marching band and Castle Crew. My partner for Orientation was Ryan Russell." "ROCKATHON 2007!! It was my last one, and it was bittersweet because of that. I really had a lot of fun and hung out with EVERYONE. I changed groups so many times, and it was amazing like that! " "On Monday, I had a french horn party at my house. We swam, ate A LOT, watched pokemon, played taboo, slip and slided, danced, made tshirts, and took a lot of pictures. We had a lot of fun. Our section is just the greatest :)" "I AM SO EXCITED FOR SENIOR YEAR!!!!" "I found out I got a raise! yay!"
September Poisonwood Bible Research Project/AP English 4 with Jay = no updates.
October "I promise there's a reason I haven't been updating. Mostly, senior year takes up my life. I don't even have time on weekends."
November "My 17th birthday was november 12th. I have been keeping this xanga since I was 13. Oh, how I've grown up!" "My Yale application was due november 1st." "It doesn't really seem like I ever get a break, to be honest." "Marching band ended. The only thing I really miss is getting to see everyone that isn't in honors band. I miss being with my section every day!" "I really like going to the lake :)" "The research project was turned in. We did well."
December "2007 is almost over! 2008 is going to bring so much.. including my high school graduation. Scary thought, but exciting at the same time. :)" "I had a french horn party at my house! we played lots of guitar hero 3, halo 3, and cooking mama !! I got a wii a few weeks ago, and it is way too much fun for my own good." "I love seeing my friends throughout winter break :)" "I got published in Time magazine!!! :) If you happen to see the latest copy (December 24th, 2007 edition, I believe), flip to page 16, and you will be sure to see my letter to the editor on stem cell research. yeah!" "I have a new boyfriend (!!!) who makes me really, really, really happy." "I'm almost a second semester senior! I can hardly believe it, seriously."
That's it.
Welcome to the year of 2008, the year I finish high school, the year I enter college, and the year I begin the rest of my life. :)
| 2007 is almost over! 2008 is going to bring so much.. including my high school graduation. Scary thought, but exciting at the same time. :)
It's winter break. yay! The last school day was Wednesday the 19th. Thursday, I had a french horn party at my house! we played lots of guitar hero 3, halo 3, and cooking mama !! I got a wii a few weeks ago, and it is way too much fun for my own good. On Friday, it was Carlos' birthday, so I took him to chili's for lunch. Then we played some big brain academy at my house. yay :) that night I hung out with mark, cari, and brennan, who are all home from college. We went to johnny rocket's (we love our waiter, Joshua) and saw National Treasure 2. We went to piccomolo after for no reason, really. I love seeing my friends throughout winter break :) shannon and jared are going to come over later this week. whoo hoo !
I am soo excited for LOST to come back in February. I am counting the days.... just like I am waiting to hear back from colleges! Uh oh!
I got published in Time magazine!!! :) If you happen to see the latest copy (December 24th, 2007 edition, I believe), flip to page 16, and you will be sure to see my letter to the editor on stem cell research. yeah!
I have a new boyfriend (!!!) who makes me really, really, really happy.
I really need to finish my college application to UT. hahaha
I'm almost a second semester senior! I can hardly believe it, seriously.
I have to work on Christmas Eve Day (tomorrow). Gross!
I have to read Wuthering Heights for english and am not really enjoying it yet.
Happy holidays, everyone !!!
| My 17th birthday was november 12th. I have been keeping this xanga since I was 13. Oh, how I've grown up!
My Yale application was due november 1st.
I am very, very tired of school and all the stressful things surrounding it. I'm glad I have a week to recuperate (thanksgiving), but I still have to go to work probably, and I have to read an entire book, write an essay on Hamlet, and finish a whole lot of AP physics problems. it doesn't really seem like I ever get a break, to be honest.
Marching band ended. The only thing I really miss is getting to see everyone that isn't in honors band. I miss being with my section every day! I do not miss my friday and saturday nights being sucked up by a football game, however.
I really like going to the lake :)
I need to finish my college applications, and I plan on doing that this week, hopefully. I just need to finish the essays for 3, and I'm done. Most are short answer, thankfully.
The research project was turned in. We did well.
I'm burnt out, I think. | | |
| I promise there's a reason I haven't been updating.
Mostly, senior year takes up my life. I don't even have time on weekends.
