| - Main TitleAnd so, after a long break of Resolved and a wedding, Andrew's blog resumes...
RESOLVED 2006
Resolved was so impactful, I had to jot down my points for this post. Resolved was a conference in Pasadena based on Jonathan Edwards' 70 resolutions that resulted in him being considered by some "the greatest theologian America has ever produced". The worship was beautiful, as it s when 2500 people sing hymns and songs like "How Great Is Our God" without music at times. The preaching was stellar, with C.J. Mahaney, Steve Lawson, Rick Holland, and John MacArthur. Here are some quotes from or used by the speakers:
All God's plans have the mark of the cross on them, and all His plans have death to self in them. - E.M. Bounds
Understanding is the reward of faith. - Augustin
Luck is just a pagan myth. There is no such thing as an accident. - Steve Lawson
God owes sinners no mercy of any kind, only condemnation. - J.I. Packer
Man's dislike at God's sovereignty arises from his suspicion of God's heart. - Horatius Bonar
The topics were a wide range, from the doctrine of election to being resolved to live for Christ alone, each having a convicting manner about them. Overall, it was a great conference, a great weekend and the countdown clock has started for Resolved 2007 (February 16-19 2007 in sunny Southern California). DISNEYLAND - 1/22/06
My sister was married this past Saturday to a wonderful guy and naturally, we had our entire family in town. My aunt, uncle, and two cousins asked me later that night if I would accompany them to Disneyland the next day. Some of them hadn't been there in 15 years and the landscape as totally changed since then, so I said sure. We got there at about noon and bought 1-day Park Hoppers and went into Disneyland first. The highlights of the day were definitely Space Mountain and Soarin'. Yet, throughout the day, I realized that I was distant from my relatives. When I asked an in-depth question to my cousin, she deflected and vice versa. The only people I mostly felt a connection to were my aunt and uncle It was a bittersweet day.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
"The meaning of the Scripture is the Scripture." - John MacArthur during Resolved.
And yes, I turn 19 today. Watch out world!
Until next time, Andrew

| - Only the Beginning of the AdventureHappy New Year everyone!
May this coming year bring you joy, peace, and blessing. May it be filled with times of humor, family, adventure, and triumph.
With the calendar year coming to a close, the best movie of 2005 in my opinon was "The Chronicles of Narnia" with the runner-up being "Batman Begins".
2006 ought to be a big year for Disney, with "Pirates of the Caribbean 2" opening in July. Also, Disneyland will still be having its 50th Anniversary celebration. The new Monsters Inc. ride at California Adventure is almost open. the original Pirates ride is getting a facelift this spring to better tie in the film, Rockit Mountain debuts in May at Disneyland, and Expedition Everest opens at Animal Kingdom, to name a few.
| - I Pray on ChristmasI was reflecting on Christmas, the event itself, the shopping and presents, the mad rush at the grocery store (where I work) to buy food for the various feasts, etc. And then, a wonderful, unexpected time of worship came in the form of a Christmas Eve service at my friends' church. Much smaller than the church I attend, it was a relaxing atmosphere and I realized that here, in my small corner of the world, out in the American West, I am simply worshipping my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while fellow Christians from around the world are recognizing the night that ultimately paved the way for His death and resurrection and the price that He paid for all. Thousands annually flock to Bethlehem to mark the occasion of Christ's birth, and while I won't be hopping on a plane anytime soon, I try to appreciate that town's place in history. I can't imagine the original sight of that star shining above that town whenever I sing "O Holy Night." And so it is with these thoughts that I wish you all a wonderful and merry Christmas and I pray that this time with family is a pleasant and enjoyable time for all, yet the importance of the actual day not forgotten. And with that, I say...
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
| Saw Narnia last weekend...it was awesome! I had such high expectations for it and it surpassed them. The movie was true to the book in every sense and the Christian aspects were alive and well in the film. Another journal entry coming soon but I wanted to post that part now. | | |
