Petrucci's new album is out FINALLY. Ordered it today from his site. You can hear some of the songs here: http://www.johnpetrucci.com/sounds.html. Definitely worth checking out. I heard some of these songs back in 2001 when he toured with Vai and Satriani, so it's about friggin' time. Of course, he's been busy with Dream Theater which has put out a lot of stuff lately (especially that Budokan DVD...smokin!!). They just finished recording their latest album a week ago, and it'll be out in May/June. Crazy.

What do you guys think of podcasts?

Also, there's a launchbar app for windows out now called AppRocket. If anybody tries it, please tell me what they/you think.

Going to see John Stewart on Friday. It snowed 7 inches here yesterday, so sledding will be excellent this weekend. Other than that, it's that time of the semester.... :(

As seen on n-philes.com ("Haha, Eric, It's so like you to think of an idea like that." -Anonymous)...

Eric N: What if Nintendo and Apple started combining forces? Perhaps Apple could help Nintendo with its new movie/tv franchises while Nintendo creates first party games exclusive to the Mac platform. What do you think?

SS4Gogita says: Apple and Nintendo? Might make an interesting combination, if you could mix the two of them together. That's not very likely though because of Nintendo's current and future partnership with IBM.

Spacecow says: If Apple and Nintendo combined forces, it would produce the nicest looking, most durable, least practical devices ever. I've never owned anything by Apple though so I'm really just talking out of my (expletive deleted).

TheHumanCow says: I don't think a console featuring controllers with only one button would do very well. It'd look cool, though.

Hybrid-Homer says: I was going to make a joke about Nintendo and EA putting Mario Kart in Need For Speed.

"'He told me I needed to get involved; give of myself, without asking anything in return," Jim said. 'I thought that was a good idea, but told him I was busy and didn't have enough time.' Jim will never forget his friend's response: 'time is your excuse,' he said, 'but selfishness is your reason.'"

The presidency.

Bush just took Colorado, and Ohio is probably his too. That makes 266 EVs. Then New Mexico with its 5 EVs will push him over the 270 threshold, making him the winner. That's my guess. It's all about Ohio though. Once Bush wins that one, it's over. So I'm betting on another four years of W. Fortunately, I'll only have to live in this country for one of them.

This entry is way too academic.

School has been wearing on me lately; it's just so damn hard to get an A here. This week I got one though. On an important paper too. But still, I wonder if it was worth it. I remember how much that paper took out of me after I handed it in--I basically did nothing for a week to recuperate. I didn't even pull an all-nighter for the thing, but I was definitely relying on surges of inspiration/motivation. This is how I used to do my work, but it's a precarious way of doing things isn't it? Overexertion = Bad

But then I began to think of it a different way. The ups and downs sort of remind me of the economy. Oh god... sorry.. let me just finish the thought. Anyway, I remember my professor of Economic History saying that the key to future growth in the U.S. will involve steadying the stream of innovation, relying on numerous small breakthroughs rather than the huge ones of the past (i.e. the cotton gin). That way, growth is more stable. Isn't this a bit boring though? He is envisioning a country that is basically full of labrats that research ways to improve part 0000X of product 0000Y. Anyway, people could delve way deeper into this, but my point is that it doesn't sound all that exciting.

Neither does a steady-freddy method of studying. I've found that most of my friends who are med students (at really good med schools) have 3 common traits: 1) they are calm 2) they are very kind 3) they are boring. Have you ever noticed how much truth is in the phrase "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy?" Well, all these future doctors are pretty dull, but it's also because they have to be. They rarely party, and what they claim as "partying" is hardly my idea of what having fun is.

However, the point of this rant is not to diss doctors, but to defend my way of things. I admire doctors. They are essentially sacrificing their own lives to help those of others. But I think I can do the same thing, just not all the time. To avoid lull periods though (like last week), maybe I should smooth out the work little bit (but not too much).

Halloween is this coming weekend. There will be 3 parties, and I will take a break from work to go to all of them. As my friend Neil said, "your twenties is the period in your life when the most fun can be had." With that, cheers to flashes of brilliance!
