I reckon..

So, this weekend I headed up north to Uncle Nick and Enza's place, right about at the Wisconsin/Illinois Border.  Great Grandma Koehnke(Mary), (95 years old this year), is staying at Great Aunt Nancy's for the summer, and we all decided a visit would be good.

Anyways, before heading up yesterday morning I decided that instead of calling and asking for directions or asking Aunt Susie, I would figure them out my own, using an online maps tool.  After a frustrating half hour of fussing around with not only Google maps, but also mapquest and Yahoo Maps, I decided to create my own directions. "They" just weren't providing the "preferred route" that I knew had to exist.  Well, I finally devised something I liked, printed it, checked myself out one more time in the mirror, then hopped in the car and drove off.

I was driving a bit and saw hwy 59north coming up.  Now understand that 59 appeared no where on my printed directions, nor on the sites as I had remembered, but I thought, "hmmm I think this will run into hwy blahblahblah, and that will get me where I want to go, without a few extra roads".  So I took it.

I'm heading north, and I don't run into my next road. "shit. I'm going out of the way again, aren't I?", I say to myself. "DAMN IT!"  I'm very good at getting sidetracked/lost/out of my way.  The four lane highway turns two lane, and the speed limit drops, so I decide to call for assistance.  JOE? no answer, MOM? no answer. DAD? no answer.  SHIT.  I pull a u-ey, thinking I'll have to go back from where I came, and try joe again. He picks up, puts uncle nicky on, who proceeds to explain to me that my route is just fine, to keep going on it till I hit blah blah blah road, and then "you're just 10 min. and a couple roads away". "That's the route I would have taken; My dad and I used to go that way all the time when we went fishing, when I was young.."

SO.....after all that fuss of looking up maps/directions online, within minutes into my trip, I pick my "own route".  After a while, I believe I've gotten myself lost, out of the way, headed in the wrong direction.  I call for help, seeking guidance, having given up on myself , and as it turns out, I'm heading in the exact right direction, as well informed sources tell me, I'm just taking the slightly slower, "scenic route".  No need for alarm or upset, the destination is the same, regardless of which path I take.

p.s. ....this means nothing at all.

p.p.s. you can call me "the cat whisperer". (as joe has dubbed me..)

Happy new week.

珍珠奶茶

The brakes on my car had felt funny for a couple of weeks now, and on top of that came the whirring sound while driving this whole week.... So I finally felt it was time to bring the car in. Did I mention my muffler strap had rusted and broke?

I went to Wayne's Auto Service Center (not a couple minutes from my place), explained the issues, and left "Harold" with him.  Wayne is by the way the cutest mechanic you will probably ever encounter.  The man is tiny, old, stick thin, and appears calm, but sort of wiley in character. He stands under 5 ft. tall, I'm sure.

So, instead of just walking home, I walked over to starbucks. Hadn't been in awhile, so I felt it was due time. Got myself a Venti Iced Coffee - half/half and splenda, cinnamon and cocoa, and had a seat.

I sat, waiting, wondering how much mula I would be missing before the afternoon was through..

ok, I lie. I was actually daydreaming about owning a VW Microbus-Chameleon, yup that's the one:

(yeah, it's totally kick-ass, yeah it's electric, yeah the surf boards are actually solar panels. yeah. I would however prefer hydrogen powered, but you know, whatever.)

and how I would travel around the U.S. of A. going to shows of my favorite bands, visiting cities, and friends.

Yes, this wouldn't be the first time I dreamed this dream (it hadn't always been a VW though, but it was a bus.  I didn't really know of VW microbuses at that time, but I did know I would have made a pretty good hippie.)

Anywho, waiting, and more waiting. They even came around with free samples!! FREE SAMPLES!!! (I was instantly back in shenzhen..*tear*)

The phone rang, I heard the news: a paycheck and a half later, and my car would be as good as new..almost. suck.

but I didn't let that get me down, because on the way back I stopped at the asian market not a minute from my house. Had been meaning to go for a while now.  I found the makings for bubble tea, so I went home, and that's what I did...

I made bubble tea.

p.s. 1 part Arizona Diet Green Tea, 1 part unsweetened Soy Milk, three Teaspoons splenda, 1/2 cup prepared Black Tapioca pearls. Heat. 1 big-ass straw. Serve. YUM.
