Thanks for some of the comments on the below article.  I forgot to mention in my post that in the same issue of TIME magazine, there's an excerpt from Barack Obama's new book on his spiritual walk.  He talks about the Republicans bashing him in the past for not being a true christian, and he gives his insight on the dilemma liberalism has faced in answering the religion right.  The excerpt can be found here.
