H.E.R.O.E.S. WEEK 2006 this has been quite the week. our hero this year was Raina Rajeev. she is a six year old little girl with a movement disorder (to put it very simply). doctors think that this was caused by a neurological response to the MMR she had early last year. we had our final all school assembly yesterday morning and it was awesome, but there were two parts that left me at a loss for words.
the first was when Mrs. Leadford came up with Mrs. Smith's class to talk about what the elementary had been doing all week. not only did the elementary raise $16,000...they also did things for Raina throughout the week. one class made her a special book with letters from all of the students inside. Mrs. Smith's class earned a class party because they won the Piggy Bank War that the elementary was having. they decided that instead of having their party they wanted to give the money that would have been spent on the party to Raina to "help with the doctor bills." it was great to get to hear about it.
the second was when Susie Rajeev, Raina's mom, spoke to the school. i have never in my life hears a woman speak with such faith and conviction. knowing the testimony of her family (told earlier this week by her husband) makes what she said even more incredible. im not even going to try to tell you what she said because there is no way i could accurately convey her message, but theose of you who were there know what im talking about.
it was so wonderful to be able to come together as a school and, through Christ, bless the Rajeev family. at about 11 o'clock yesterday morning our headmaster, Mr. Dallas Caldwell, presented Raina and her family with a check for $39,000. i pray that we will all remember why we have H.E.R.O.E.S. WEEK...to reflect Christ by helping others.
