For those of you who don't know yet - I got engaged this weekend...

I haven't actually told too many people since it happened on Friday, but it seems that word has already gotten out.  Thanks everyone for all the congratulations and gifts (more are always welcome  ). It's been a lotta fun.  Tiring though.  It was funny - joanne's dad is staying at my place and friday night i didn't get to sleep til 5 am or so (got 2 or 3 hours of sleep the previous night) - and so I didn't get up til past noon.  I woke up and realized that he had been up since 7 am and since i was sleeping in the living room w/the tv, and my comp required a password, he had been just staring at the ceiling for 5 hours.  Whoops, not a good start to impressing my future father-in-law.  sorry..

Man, this is crazy... just finalized where I'm gonna be living for the next few years today.  It's the start of a whole new stage of life. Working a 9-5 job.  It's weird to think that this stage of working for a living will be the largest chunk of my lifespan.  Hope it'll be a good time. hi joanne.

It was good to see my family this weekend, even though it was under sad circumstances.  I had a good time laughing and crying with them.  I feel bad for not having seen my grandmother much lately.  I'm gonna try to make it a point to take more "family time" in general.  You never now how long they're gonna be around.

It's too bad i missed the gala.  Even though I wasn't exactly full of excitement/anticipation for it, i'm sure it would've been nice.  One last brown formal.  It probably would've been fun, and memorable and all that.  (Sorry joanne that we had to miss it).  I hope everyone who went had a good time and took lots of pics of hot girls :)

A tribute to my grandfather:

Though I never really got to know him all that well, he was always around when i was growing up, and had always seemed like such a permanent fixture in my life.  It's strange that he's now gone.  He had a cool, successful career (flying fighter jets for the chinese army vs. the japanese) and cool (but sad) scars to prove it.  He was always very even tempered and laid back.  He gave me my height and my ability to sleep with my eyes open.  And he was funny.  I remember one time he took me and my brother to a red sox game at fenway park.  I was maybe 6 or 7 years old.  It's kind of vague now, but I remember him getting up to get a snack.  He came back w/a hot dog and a drink.  He told me to have some of his apple juice.  I gulped some down and promptly began to gag.  Yup, it was my first taste of beer.  It was nasty.  He had a good laugh over it though.  So yeah, he was funny.  And my mom and my uncle and aunt adored him.  And I, in my own way, also adore him.

I regret not having gotten to know him more, but I'm thankful that I still have the hope that I will see him again one day.
