  • It's Been Awhile....

I'm getting a little behind on my updates!
Last Tuesday we had Story time at the library (our homeschool group). I don't usually go, but they were starting a Crochet club which Tamara was very interested in, so we went. The only reason I don't go to storytime is because it's just one more thing to do, and I don't function real well when I've got alot going on. The kids really enjoy it though!!

We all went to Roy & Kay's new house for lunch and for the Crochet club meeting!

Leah led the crochet meeting....deciding on times, how often they meet, who will bring what food and projects they'd like to make.

On Thursday Heidi W. invited us over to her place for lunch. She had a fire going and grilled hot dogs! We had a very nice time. Her mom, sis-in-law Misty and cousin Alicia came over too! Alicia took us up the road to see their new house they are in the process of building! Looks exciting!

On Friday and Saturday Kay was having yard sale and invited anyone to bring stuff to sell. Well, I had previously planned to bake and have a stand at our local Farmer's Market that Sat. I am trying to raise money for our trip to PA in December for my brother's wedding. So I decided to take my yard sale stuff AND my baked goods to Kay's yard sale instead. I was disappointed that I didn't sell more baked stuff. I was left with quite a few whoopie pies out of the 4 kinds I made. So next month I am going to stick with my plan and have the stand at the Farmer's Market!

Chocolate and Vanilla whoopie pies. I also made strawberry and cake mix. Oh, and a Shoofly pie which sold!

We have been seeing quite a few deer lately between our house and the woods. One day around 4 PM I saw this mom and fawn out grazing! I took the pic through the window, so it didn't get real good. They were in the shadows and it was bright at the window. But here they are...

And a parting shot of Mocha. He ripped open his duck toy and tore out the "quacker". What a silly dog. We had to take it from him once he ripped open the bag yet, too! Now we have the plastic "quacker" and like to pest him with it!

We are planning to go to the park this afternoon. In the kids science book, they are supposed to gather some different leaves and types of tree bark. So we are going to do that, walk the dog, and get some exercise all together. Dan had to run down to the prison for a little this morning and when he gets back we will go!

  • Mice...UGHH!!

About 10 days ago, the kids and Dan were watching a movie in the evening and suddenly Tamara shrieked...there went a rat!! Well, it was just a mouse, but needless to say I was not happy that these little rodents are finding my house a haven from cooler temps! I left it go because with our new puppy in the house, I didn't want him to get into a trap (and I really don't like setting traps for fear of snapping my fingers in them!)
Last week one day we saw the mouse in the middle of the day. He ran from the fridge, under the stove, back out and under the dishwasher, back out and under my hutch. So there we had him trapped, Danny with a broom at one end and me with my Pampered Chef flyswatter with fly pan at the front! We scared him out but he was too quick for Danny and he ran under my laundry door!
So every time I would do laundry I always kept my toes back away from the edge of the washer so he wouldn't come out and nibble on them. WELL......yesterday I was getting wash out of the washer and guess what I felt?? That little mouse ran over my FOOT!!!!
I had enough! I pulled out my traps, lathered one with peanut butter, defied my fear of pinched fingers and set it in the laundry. Less than an hour later.....SNAP!!! We had him!
I reset the trap again, but I really think he was the only one....hopefully!

I have quite a few pics to add on here sometime...it's just so hard to find the time. Maybe later today! Have a good one~

  • Our weekend....
On Friday our homeschool group went to Estuaries Day in Appalachicola. Since Dan has off on Friday's, he got to go along. We had a beautiful day and a lovely hour drive down there!

One of the first activities the kids could do was an obstacle course. They had to take crabs (stuffed ones) from crates and put them in a bucket, catch a fish, rake clam shells (what Danny is doing below), clean up trash, run through a net and back around to the beginning. They got timed. Danny did it on 1 min. 30 sec. Tamara didn't want to try it.

    100_4721

Trying their hand at casting a net. They both did pretty good!

    Checking out a snake!

    100_4732

Reptile Roundup game. After all these games they got to pick a free "gift". They got a snake that grew when you put it in water, a tablet, small rubbery lizards, and a few other cool toys!

    100_4743

Holding a Sea Star. We found out that they are trying to get people to call them Sea Stars instead of Starfish since they really aren't fish! So now you know!

Friday night Esther came along with Ruth T. to bring her mother, Glennys S. back to Blountstown. Esther also brought us a puppy!
    Introducing.......

    Mocha
    100_4818

He is a Boykin Spaniel and is only 3 months old. We are attempting to teach him to be a house dog. We'll see how it goes! Today so far has been perfect...no accidents, knock on wood!

    100_4821

The kids had so much fun with Esther!! She played games with them, taught them their colors in Spanish, quizzed them on Bible knowledge and alot more. They didn't want her to leave....neither did Mocha! LOL!!

    100_4823

Tamara and Mocha have formed quite a bond!

    100_4828

This week we are having revivals with Todd Neuenschwander from IN. So I better go get supper ready so we get ready in time! Dan has mentoring tonight, so he won't be home till late, which means we will go to church without him.
     Have a lovely week!

Top Ten Reasons Hurricane Season is Like Christmas

    10. Decorating the house (boarding up windows).

    9. Dragging out boxes that haven't been used since last season (camping
    gear, flashlights).

    8. Last minute shopping in crowded stores.

    7. Regular TV shows pre-empted for "specials".

    6. Family coming to stay with you.

    5. Family and friends from out-of-state calling.

    4. Buying food you don't normally buy ... and in large quantities.

    3. Days off from work.

    2. Candles.

    and . . . .

    1. And the number one reason Hurricane Season is like Christmas . . .

At some point you know you're going to have a tree in your house!
