| | Yes, really. I'm a long time subscriber and I've been into cars since I was a kid, and I worked in the automotive field in the pre-music teaching years. So anyway, I wanted to email them in praise of a new trend, and lo and behold they published it. Here's what I sent, which in the magazine was headed "putting women in their place":
I've noticed in the last year or so that your magazine has finally started putting women in their place.
And that place is: Bench Racing (Jessica Bauman, Oct. 2007 and Rachel Medearis, June 2008 -- "An Educated Woman"), Pump Gas Drags (Ashley Gable, Oct. 2007), featured cars (Anna Beth and Harrel Lamkin's MoPacer, Nov. 2007), Finish Line (okay, Ashley Force is nailing the wall in the Nov. 2007 issue, but still...), and road tests (Gail Truess behind the wheel of the Terlingua Mustang, June 2008).
Thanks for continuing to put out an outstanding car magazine for everyone, regardless of X/Y chromosomes. You can count on my renewed subscription for years to come, unlike your nameless sister publication (rhymes with "Bar Raft") -- and as for the swimsuit issue -- if you want to bring it back, I want to see the car she built or drives.
Sincerely,
Drew Allport
and their response:
You're reading our minds, Drew. Check out the story on Mendy Fry in the Aug. '08 issue.
(Which I did. She's a top fuel funny car driver known as "Nitro Kitty".)
Booyah. The wife is proud of me. |
