Yesterday was our day to mow. We headed into town to fill up to 5 gal gas cans and fill up the mower! AHHHHH what ever happened to cheap mowing??? Oh well it seems funny to think I can now like the old timers say things like I remember when gas only cost $00.82 or I remember when you could get a soda out of a machine for $00.25 Hmmm I must be getting old. More of that later!
Anyhow back to my day! We got some gas and then stopped at a little place in town owned by some of the conservative Mennonites in the area called the Village Market to get some lunch stuff. We parked our truck and trailer in front of the Hometown Animal Health. When I came out to get in the truck I was prompted by something to take a brochure for the print shop into the Hometown A.H. I did and told them that we bought the print shop ( which they already knew) and that I just wanted to drop off a brochure with the prices and let them know where we were since I knew they were a customer of the print shop. Oh yes we had heard they said. Actually we need receipts they said. I asked them how soon. Yesterday they said!! Ha ha everyone wants to be funny. So then they looked to see how many they had left Oh NO they said we really do need them right away We only have 8 left not enough for the day. So I zipped to the Print shop and fired up the machinery and printed and cut 40 for them so that they could get through the day and hopefully most of today.
After that we headed to the Yards to mow. However when we got to my parents place the resident mower there had a flat tire. So we loaded it up to head to Uncle Fred's. While we did that we noticed that the lever to engage the mower was just hanging there loose. No idea how that happened. Anyhow Uncle Fred fixed it. Apparently a roll pin was about out. While he was fixing it, my young 14 year old cousin was there and he likes to talk talk talk. He was bad mouthing our Case mower and just generally talking about things as though he is a expert on all things . I told him that the mower was very old and entitled to some ailments!!! I also said we had a mower like this when I was younger then he was and we lived in DE so I said this mower is very old ( it is not the same mower just one like it ) (Dad collects them) How long ago was that he said in the 80's or 90's ??? Ha HA He thinks I was his age in the 90's??? Yeah Uncle fred said I think it was in the late 80' or early 90's ! I laughed and said more like the late 70's and early 80's!! Uncle Fred looked shocked! ( how time flies) Yes I said we moved to Fl from DE in 1982 and I was 13 ( ok I can see everyone doing the math) Uncle Fred looked sceptical. I laughed and said it's been longer then you think Uncle Fred ( you see he lived with us up until we moved from DE to FL.) I am now 39 . I was 13 when we moved that means that this fall it will be 26 years ago that we moved away from DE seems hard to believe but.....................I can see Uncle Fred's mind a going and then he just shook his head and kept working. Makes a man feel old to hear his niece that was a aggravating 13 year old in his life tell him she is now 39!!!
So he fixed the tractor and we headed back and finished mowing there and ate some lunch. Then we headed to Uncle Dean's place and mowed there when we were almost done the roll pin fell out completely. Now normally we do not take both mowers over to Uncle deans but it was so hot and we had pretty much wasted out whole mowing morning doing other things so.................I relented and made two trips. we then loaded up the tractor to head back to the ranch and Uncle fred. We were going to let the tractor there for him to fix on a later date. He wanted to fix it right then. It ended up taking two hours or more. The little job was almost impossible to get to thus all the time. But now it has a new roll pin and hopefully will work for a long time.
Well enough of that that really probably was of no interest to most of you.!
