Whether it was a bad dream, a storm outside your window, or the monster in your closet, something could scare you until you would lie frozen in your bed, hoping that someone would come in and rescue you. When you finally had the courage to yell out to your parents, they’d come in and comfort you, reminding you that you’re safe.

When something in your life paralyzes you with fear, and that intimidating person or task has you stuck and feeling powerless, yell out to God. Your old life is gone and you have begun a new life in him. Now you get the chance to make different choices and do things differently. The things we have will eventually fall apart; the people we love will eventually die and leave this world. It’s good to know that there is one who has been there since the beginning of time and will be there for us when everything else is gone.

Not so is much of the other pain in our lives; the emotional and relational pain we encounter can be crippling at times. We cry out to God, asking for the pain to be taken away. And sometimes, it seems as though our cries go unheard. But how comforting to know that the pain isn’t forever. What we struggle with here on earth is only temporary. One day we’ll be in the arms of our loving Savior as he wipes away our tears. How wonderful to imagine that eternal life—a life with no pain.

Psalm 139:13-18

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother's womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
How precious are your thoughts about me,* O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can't even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!

Life on the way devotional. Do you see him on the shoreline? Is he right there beside you? Is he somewhere on the other side of the mountain, out of your sight? It’s easy for us to get so caught up in our storms that we don’t even look around to see where God is in the midst of it all. The waves can seem so big and the clouds so dark that it’s hard for us to see much of anything other than the storm.

It helps to remember that God is always there with us. Even if you can’t see beyond your own need because the storm is so rough, God is there. Remember when Peter walked on water? As soon as he took his eyes off Jesus, he started to sink. If you just keep your eyes on Jesus—even when you can’t see him—you’ll stay afloat in whatever storm you face.

Matthew 14:28-31a

Then Peter called to him, "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water."
"Yes, come," Jesus said.
So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong* wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted.
Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. "You have so little faith," Jesus said. "Why did you doubt me?"

Thursday, November 08, 2007

For some odd reason my allergies are absolutely horrible right now. I can't stop sneezing and my nose is running. I don't ever remember my allergies being bad in November. Weird. I am so tired. I went to bad after one last night and then woke up before seven and cou;dn't go back to sleep. I guess the 10 hours of sleep I got the night before caught up with me? I don't know...
The weather is finally getting nice here and i love it. It was in like the mid-50s last night. I usually have to sleep with my fan on in my room and last night I didn't. I just curled up with an extra blanket on my bed and some socks and went to sleep. I love it when it's like that. It's already warming up outside though. We've had some really beautiful weather since last Friday. Usually weather like this doesn't last this long..especially this early.

Scary stuff...

Talk about scary...
I was walking my dogs alittle bit ago around the block and there was this van coming down the street and he had his blinker on, then immediately turned the blinker off and started coming straight and slowed down right next to me. He lowers his window and says "You wanna come say hi" I just kinda look at him and keep walking getting really freaked out. he reaches into the back of his van and I was totally thinking he was gonna like grab something..then I see a wolf looking dog in the back of his car. I was still walking and everything. I mean..you don't just do that. And how many times does God wash us clean of our sin and forgive us? We know that God removes our sin as far as the east is from the west, but that doesn’t always help us find peace when we continue to stumble through life and sin over and over again.
The amazing thing about God is that he loves us—in spite of our sin. And he knows we’re not strong enough to hold onto him, so he holds us in his arms to remind us how much he loves us. So when you feel like you’ve lost your grip and God is slipping away, remember that he is holding onto you and he won’t let you go.

Psalm 103:11-13

"For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth."

Friday, October 26, 2007

I think i'm going to do a few entries tonight. Just because of the fact that I am so behind on this thing . But we will start with back in September when I went to Rock the Universe.

The build-up to this weekend was unbearable. I was losing my appetite I was so excited. The hour finally rolled around when I got picked up and brought to the church. When I got picked up from my house my youth leader was telling me that if he wanted to see any band, it was Family Force 5, and I was right there with him. We talked about them pretty much our whole way to the church which was pretty amazing. When we got to the church we were some of the first people there. We waited around for everyone to get there. By the time the last person showed up it was 3:15 and we were supposed to leave at 3:00. We started driving and I was really excited because we were finally on our way. So were other people.

Then the horrible saying of "I have to go to the bathroom" came up. So all three vehicles stopped at a gas station for a "bathroom break" well this "break" turned into a half an hour hang out.

Then after that little adventure we FINALLY started driving again. They decided they wanted to take the longer way to get there because it would be cheaper without any tolls. So we started driving out in what looked like the middle of nowhere. We finally reached civilization again and I started realizing where we were. There was another bathroom break in there...and then we finally reached our hotel. We checked in and immediately zoomed off to Universal Studios. By this time Family Force 5 was already performing and we weren't even there yet. We finally reached Universal Studios. We rushed in to see if we could catch the very end up FF5's set. No such luck. So I what I mainly went to Rock the Universe for was done and over with. I didn't really want to dwell on it much and have it ruin my weekend so Michael and I went and watched Hawk Nelson.

They were pretty good and we ended up staying for their whole set. After that we wet and grabbed something to drink and walked around for alittle while. At this point in time I didn't care who I saw or what bands I was missing. We ran into some people from the youth group and I heard that some people were going to go on some rides and I decided that was what I wanted to do. So I went on Twister, Earthquake, Jaws, and The Mummy. Twister was actually pretty cool, earthquake was nothing like I thought it was, Jaws was funny, and the mummy was just plain awesome! Soo by this time the night was pretty much over and we all met up and went to the cars. Then there was peekture time!

I was even that happy after missing FF5! Then we headed back to the hotel and crashed! The next morning we woke up and hung out at the hotel for alittle bit and well...this happened...
Mmm breakfast! HAH! Then we left and went to eat lunch at Smoky Bones BBQ.
Yay for youth leaders! Yes, this is a normal activity in my youth group..I look so grossed out! So after our adventures at Smoky Bones we headed on over to Universal Studios again. When we got there we walked around and then we decided we wanted to go on The Mummy again. Well it was already looking like it was going to rain. But right then it started POURING! We were tryign to decide if we wanted to run out into the rain, or if we wanted to wait until it passed over. We finally decided that we didn't want to wait there any longer and we would just put our stuff in lockers. I thoguth everyone was going to come with me but then after i got all of the stuff in the locker, along with another person we had lost our whole group. We didn't know where they were for a good period of time and I had everyones phones so I couldn't get a hold of anyone. By the time I found my youth leaders people were calling me like crazy because i had their phones. I finally reunited with my group and we went and walked around some more. and some more. Then we met up at our meeting place and listen to Jeremy Camp and Relient K at the same time. We then left and went back to the hotel and slept again. The next morning we woke up and ate breakfast and had a mini church service then ended up going to Islands of Adventure for the day. I met up with on my my friends from the barlowgirl message boards and got to hang out with her for alittle bit which was really cool. We rode alot of rides and it was alot of fun. Then we had to go home. haha. yeah..that ending was really dumb.

Thursday, October 11, 2007

Random thoughts and things:

1. I'm around it all day long everyday. It makes me worry to no end. The more I hear about it the more angry, worried, sad, and annoyed I become with it. It makes me not want to be home at all. Right now if someone wanted me to move in with them and I was able to i'd probably leave in a heart beat. I need to get out of here and do something. I'm so tired of this environment all together. I'm sick of being around my family all the time, being in this city...everything minus my friends. I need a car, a license and a job so when I get tired of things I can just go somewhere.
