A long story made short--testimony time

I'm updating--it's like a christmas miracle.

Please read all the way to the end to find out exciting stuff happening in the life of pie.

This is my finale piece from last semester. It is a interactive sculpture primarily made of memory foam and the softest of fabrics stitched with silk thread in veinlike patterns. A beautiful atmospheric lullaby (written by Chris Couri) is heard when the viewer lays there head down inside the pod. It is a place to rest and wonder. I love it. I wish you could all could experience it.

How I got where I am:

God is doing so crazy stuff in my life and i wanted to share it with all of you. When I was in Scotland with YWAM in 2005 God spoke to me clearly about this next step of going to art school. I was prophesied over that I had the spirit of Bezalel--The first Temple Artist and man recorded to be filled with God's spirit (check out Exodus 35)--and that God would use me to create beautiful symbolic works of art.
While at YWAM I applied for art school and received a good scholarship--but art school is expensive and my values would not permit me to go into debt for school. I told God that if He wanted me to go to art school he would have to provide the funds. Well, right before going to school my dad got a new job where he would be making more money--enough to send me to school debt free. Praise God!

Where I am:

As many of you know I am now a Junior at the Kansas City Art Institute majoring in Art History and Interdisciplinary Studio Art. My school experience has has been miraculous. When i first arrived at KCAI I was very much a lone ranger in my faith and it was very difficult for me. Eventually i found some Christian friends. About 3 of us would meet on occation and pray that God would unify the christians on campus--that we would find each other and that God would show up on campus.
Last Semester our prayers were amazingly answered. Randomly we found the Kansas City Boiler Room, A super hip church a few blocks from our Campus. The Boiler Room is the US national headquarters of 24/7 prayer an offshoot of the 24/7 prayer movement that began in the UK and that I came encounter with while living in Scotland. (Check out the website: http://www.boiler-rooms.com/cm/resources/26). Through word of mouth tons of kids from my school started going to church at the Boiler Room--kids from every art department and every type of christian background.
The Boiler Room strongly emphasizes community and small groups and as more and more art kids began coming to the boiler room I instigated the start of an artist's collective (small group). So I have been thrust into co-leadership of this collective. It has been so amazing and humbling to see this eager group every Thursday night meet together to grow in their knowledge and experience of God. This past meeting 24 artists stuffed in my tiny apartment for collective . We ate a meal together and shared stories and then discussed the definition of the Holy Spirit--crazy time
Please Please pray for me and this group. There is such a huge range of knowlege and experience levels. Many of them are new christians and some don't know Jesus at all yet. It is so exciting to see the eagerness in all that come. They want to know Jesus!

Where I am Going:

The leadership at the Boiler Room have really taken me under their wing (it's a really cool method of leadership as well--a whole net-work of leadership instead of a few or just one person). I am being decipled and recognized as a visionary leader. The Boiler Room meets in a an Industrial loft space (very hip space) and they now have three levals of the 6-7 floor building. The Church has just now aquired the first Floor of the building that used to be an art gallery. The space is amazing--track lighting, high ceilings, wall hangings for artwork. Well the leaders of the boiler room have invited me to become the events coordinator and curator of the space. This means i could put on anything from an art show, concert, film festival, to dance lessons.
I proposed to the head of internships (Julie Metzler) at my school to use this opertunity to curate at the Boiler Room as an accredited internship through school. Today I showed Julie the space and she was blown away by the potencial and has accepted my proposal! What does this mean? It means that I will get college credit to put on Jesus-centered art events! CRAZY!
Last year prior to finding this church I had this growing desire to be a "temple decorator" and I felt like God told me I would get a chance to make His house beautiful like Bezalel in the old testament. My heart is bursting with excitement to be used so specifically. I am growing in my knowledge of God and am being used in my specific gifts. It is so good to follow Jesus.

I hope this testimony encourages you. Keep following Jesus! Keep seeking Him first and He will direct your paths. I want to thank my dear friends for so much encouragement and prayer throughout the years. Also Thank you for reading this if you made it this far. I will try to up date a little more frequently--but school is usually so crazy busy it is hard for me to. Please ask questions if you have any about the work i'm doing here in kc.

I've been asked to do some performance painting at The Methods/Sleeping At Last Show (2 bands that love Jesus and make very beautiful music) this Wednesday. You should come if you can!

Sleeping At Last, The Methods, The Cardinal Rise, Sara Van BuskirkFitzgerald’s [2706 White Oak, Houston TX]Wednesday, June 20th, 2007 – 7pm -- $8.00

In other news, I've been in the news. This year I was Jon Yon's Team Captn durring the Texas Water Safari. Jon did great in the race, making 12th place overall out of over a hundred boats. Anyway we got a lot of media attention...I'm convienced it's because I always try to use words like "community" or "environment" while being intervied. Here are a few links if you are interested. Channel 8 interview (scroll down and click "play video"), an Article, Pictures

Cocoon

*Edit*yonley_cocoon_01 yonley_cocoon_02 here is the first instalment of pictures . These 2 photos are documentation of my final and most succesful installation/performance piece. Inside this cocoon was sweet smells and music box sounds. The performer is Annie, one of the daughters of the family I rent a room from here in Kansas City thus my seragent sister. For the performance she was instructed to make a real wishes and blow out the dandelions. She was amazing.

Annie has been a bit of a muse for me since I came here. She is at that strange age where all she want to do is be a little girl but Growing Up is lurking around every corner. I wish that I could just encapsulate her so she could stay a little girl just a little longer.

It was wonderful fun playing the role of artist, designer, and director. I love putting all the different elements together to make a greater experience. I also had some filming done of the performance and am hoping to edit it to some original music over the summer.
